Tiny wings, big impact! Our third project outing is called the ‘Emerger Stage’ — and it’s when things come alive! We review setting the hook, casting, and introduce conservation education — including BUGS!!! 🪲🐛🪰🦟🦗
Here, Conservation Mentor Peri delivers a lesson on river habitats and insect life — one of our most sensitive indicators of river health. The mentees are captivated by what lives in their local stream and what the fish eat. They learn about the different insect lifecycles and how to ‘match the hatch’ of each to the fly patterns in their fly boxes. Then they apply that knowledge out on the water! 🙌🪰🎣🐟
Our goal of having a conservation mentor is to educate the children on the challenges faced by our natural environments and then teaching them how to care for them and for the fish they get to experience. Not only will the mentees form a deeper connection with the outdoors, but our aim is that they will be more curious about their environment and also begin to understand why it is essential to protect it. 💚🌿💦🪰🐟

Our Reading Project (Theale) needs kids — please help us get more kids out fly fishing this summer!!!
We are accepting applications for our 2025 Reading Project. Our projects are open to children and young people in care aged 8-18 — in foster care, kinship care, residential children’s homes or even adopted out of care.
Project Location: Theale, Reading, Berkshire
Project Dates: 10/5, 17/5, 31/5, 14/6, 05/7
Our projects are FREE and we provide all instruction, equipment, lunch — and plenty of fish and fun!
Please help us spread the word and share this opportunity with the foster care communities around Theale, Reading, Berkshire and West Berkshire. 📣
