The present is made and formed by the past but doesn’t confine the future.
Almost 4 years ago, the idea to have a sewing makerspace that will serve as a textile reduction hub and community enablement centre in was shared with like minded parties. With the support and agreement from , enabled the project to realise. It’s been a lot of love, passion put into the . Too look back if how a seed is sown and the plans unfolding and the massive growth in it is something we are so tremendously proud to be a part of. Where the community will continue to benefit such a gorgeous set up and it will continue to serve more people. We are grateful for our time as a resident user in the space where meet every Wednesdays. We were able to make, create and serve the community with the support and enabling by the many parties, helping us incubate and grow as an organisation as well as a family we now call ourselves. It will be forever our great memories to cherish. As we move on while others come in to be the next lucky people to use the studio , we will continue to pray and wish all involved well and hope we can all together tackle the textile waste problems while sharing resources.

I thought I’d create a series of reels to highlight some of the things you won’t see behind the scenes which many won’t be able to see. It’s never a walk in the park when we decided to serve the community with our makes using reclaimed materials, but if it wasn’t for the help from these incredible organisations, we’d not be able to run our community projects as smoothly. Big thanks to in aiding our storage solutions, if it wasn’t for the help they lent, my house - the front room, the bedrooms, the conservatory, the sheds and back of my car would have been the holding areas for many of the amazing charitable sewn items by our volunteers; materials, tools and ingredients needed to make those items: from reusable sanitary pads, draught excluders, support cushions, drain bag carriers, to reusable bags for the community, the list never ends. During the in between as, we need them stored safely and assessable. Yes it is hardwork (very hardwork), but we know it’s the right things to do and sometimes right things is against the odds and requires very hardwork. To right the wrongs we made in the world of textile waste, this seems to be one of the ways and solution to help reduce a little of the waste and create a strong community.

When the Merton Council branding changed, I’m so glad I said yes to inherit the preloved hi-vis vests for our upcycling projects. It’s a win-win, that they knew there’s an alternative solution to reduce the waste and we at Little A.R.K will somehow find a solution for it.

Working together with other organisations, supporting each other and the community is a very high priority in whatever we do. We are blessed to be invested in a society that is full of great partnerships powered by kindness, generosity, trust and commitment to better the people and environment. This is another great example and success story of how ‘supporting one another‘ through little acts of random kindness is panning out. After so much support lend to us by the GoodGymmerton , now it’s our turn to return the favour.
Utilising our pop-up space granted by and getting these hivis vest upcycled and rebranded for the GoodGymmerton’s volunteers to wear during their amazing community work in public spaces.

Today’s 1st day of Chinese lunar new year celebration, we also celebrated world random acts of kindness day by making a lot reusable sanitary pads for strangers. People came with a surprise bake, donation of materials, time and talent that has shown humanity at its best. There’s nothing that can sum up our day better than a strong sense of community, which cares deeply and shares generously.

We are so privileged and blessed to be able to continue serving the community, and create the equally important impacts environmentally, socially and mentally where we are. Sharing with you how proud and grateful we are to have been able to equip this pop up makerspace (granted by ), using all things reclaimed, re-sourced, reused, repurposed. From secondhand furnitures donated by members of community, repurposed post-event items; fabrics remnants passed to us by upholsterers or vintage haberdasheries given to us to justify their beauty, each has a story of its own to tell. 99% of the things had a history of some sort and not newly bought by us. It can only happen when many come together, believing that it can be done, unfolding the vision and making it their mission too to help us kit this place sustainably. Being circular, kind and creative when we are setting up this pop up makerspace, is a grand dream but we did it!!!! the saying of if there’s a will, there’s a way. Welcome to our new temp home where we will meet, make, and be merry together! I wish I can mention all,
These are just the few of may we cannot thank enough for making this happen! space

Every first Wednesday of the month, since 2018, a hot soup lunch is homemade with lots of love, served and shared with the community using fresh ingredients and giving what we have and can.

It’s always heart warming to see the team members grow, the diners continue to come, and friendships continue to deepen while new people are always invited by regulars.

The power of connectivity brings a lot of positivity in society and it’s what fuels us and keeps us going. Im very blessed and proud of those who helps and gets involved. Also Thank you for always supporting us while we work together in fighting food waste, and at the same time serving the community,
Just today, 26kg of bread was saved from waste and over 40 people were served with hot soup, bread, butter and cheese on the side. So glad so many ‘still good’ bread went to many homes to be eaten and enjoyed.

What can we do in one day? LOADS when we work together…. Just the first day of the week, we have now brought together 30 women together talking about menopause, urogynaecology health topics, two fulfilling sessions including a great session with busting myths, opening conversations and learning new things, making sure we are equipped to care for ourselves and also others. Knowledge is power and thank you and for the support, making our mission to create opportunities for everyone to be better each day, a possible one! In order to do this, we need space, to host growth together so we can contribute better, we are grateful to for their lending hands. The pop-up space is improving each time team comes in, one hour of their swift and amazing teamwork replaces many of my hours of very hard muscle work. From@rolling fabrics to assembling shelves and moving tables around. These helps are greatly appreciated. A world together is a world stronger, thank you all who work together, support one another and encourage one another !
