⚠️ PLEASE THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE REHOMING ANIMALS ONLINE ⚠️
We completely understand that sometimes life changes and rehoming becomes the kindest option for an animal. However, please be cautious about handing animals over to strangers online simply because they are willing to “take anything”.
Unfortunately, not everybody offering to help has the experience, setup or long-term commitment needed to properly care for the animals they take in — especially vulnerable, young, unneutered or highly sought-after species.
Before rehoming, please ask questions:
• Can they provide photos of their setup?
• Do they have experience with the species?
• What veterinary care can they provide?
• Do they understand the animal’s long-term needs?
• Are they willing to stay in contact and provide updates?
A responsible rescue or experienced keeper will never be offended by welfare-focused questions💛
As a rescue, we sometimes reach out when we see animals being rehomed online, particularly vulnerable or high-risk species. Most people appreciate the support and advice we offer, although sadly some react negatively when we try to help. Our only priority is the welfare and safety of the animals involved.
Many (although thankfully not all) of the animals that come into our care have experienced neglect, poor husbandry, untreated medical issues or have simply ended up in the wrong hands. We unfortunately see the consequences of irresponsible ownership and rehoming far too often.
Some animals remain in our care for months whilst they recover physically or behaviourally before they are ready for safe adoption. Many require extensive rehabilitation, veterinary treatment, medication and daily hands-on care.
When we take animals into our care, we do not make a profit. Every animal incurs daily costs including food, housing, heating, enrichment and veterinary care. Adoption fees rarely cover the true cost of the care we provide, they exist to help us continue rescuing animals, providing daily and veterinary care, and to encourage safe, responsible rehoming.
Rehoming and Rescue should always be about the animals, not collecting them💛
