⚠️ PLEASE THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE REHOMING ANIMALS ONLINE ⚠️

We completely understand that sometimes life changes and rehoming becomes the kindest option for an animal. However, please be cautious about handing animals over to strangers online simply because they are willing to “take anything”.

Unfortunately, not everybody offering to help has the experience, setup or long-term commitment needed to properly care for the animals they take in — especially vulnerable, young, unneutered or highly sought-after species.

Before rehoming, please ask questions:
• Can they provide photos of their setup?
• Do they have experience with the species?
• What veterinary care can they provide?
• Do they understand the animal’s long-term needs?
• Are they willing to stay in contact and provide updates?

A responsible rescue or experienced keeper will never be offended by welfare-focused questions💛

As a rescue, we sometimes reach out when we see animals being rehomed online, particularly vulnerable or high-risk species. Most people appreciate the support and advice we offer, although sadly some react negatively when we try to help. Our only priority is the welfare and safety of the animals involved.

Many (although thankfully not all) of the animals that come into our care have experienced neglect, poor husbandry, untreated medical issues or have simply ended up in the wrong hands. We unfortunately see the consequences of irresponsible ownership and rehoming far too often.

Some animals remain in our care for months whilst they recover physically or behaviourally before they are ready for safe adoption. Many require extensive rehabilitation, veterinary treatment, medication and daily hands-on care.

When we take animals into our care, we do not make a profit. Every animal incurs daily costs including food, housing, heating, enrichment and veterinary care. Adoption fees rarely cover the true cost of the care we provide, they exist to help us continue rescuing animals, providing daily and veterinary care, and to encourage safe, responsible rehoming.

Rehoming and Rescue should always be about the animals, not collecting them💛

Re-homing a reptile should never be about getting rid quickly — it should be about finding the right home.

Unfortunately, scammers, flippers and irresponsible keepers do exist within the community, and too many reptiles end up stuck in a cycle of rehome after rehome because the right checks were never made in the first place.

That’s why we’ve put together this guide — to help owners recognise red flags, understand what a genuine adopter looks like, and create responsible adverts that stand out from the crowd.

Asking questions, requesting proof of setups, and taking your time is not “being difficult” — it’s being responsible.

Whether you’re rehoming privately or through a rescue, welfare should always come first. A good home is worth waiting for 🦎🐍

This is another reason we started the network, to bring a form of self regulation in this sector to aid the overall reptile community.... 🐍🦎🐢😁

Unity doesn’t mean we all think the same.

Different opinions are what make this hobby stronger. Different experiences, different methods, different viewpoints — that’s how people learn, improve, and push standards forward. The problem isn’t disagreement. The problem starts when discussion turns into division.

Real unity is being able to sit down, talk openly, challenge ideas respectfully, and still remember we’re all here because of the same passion for the animals we keep.

Every single one of us started at the bottom. None of us were born knowing temperatures, behaviour, feeding responses, lighting requirements, breeding projects, or enclosure design. The things many of us take for granted now once felt overwhelming, confusing, or completely unknown.

That’s why support matters.

A hobby grows when people feel comfortable asking questions. It grows when knowledge is shared instead of guarded. It grows when mistakes become learning opportunities rather than ammunition to tear someone down.

No keeper improves through fear of being mocked. No community grows through ego.No standard is raised through division.

Support, education, and respectful discussion will always prevail over hostility. Because at the end of the day, we’re all still learning, still evolving, and still working towards the same goal — better keeping, better welfare, and a stronger exotics community for the future.

One community — forever evolving.
