Cliff, Dave B, Donna, Lorraine, Sophie, Chris G, Paul, Jenny, Diana, Jane O, Nick, Chris P, Steve and Jane R decided today was the perfect day (*cough*) for some light gardening, litter picking and painting ironwork….in 35C heat. We stayed on the cliff top as there was marginally more breeze up there and we brought drinking water with us. Unsurprisingly, we finished early!

Cliff left behind his beloved edging to join Dave in painting the ironwork on the first two benches. Only another 8 to go?

Thanks to all the lovely volunteers for their sterling work.

The first gorgeous picture across the Winterstoke towards the sea was taken by Chris G. You’d be forgiven for thinking it was the South of France. 😎

Jane O, Nick, Chris P, Dave B, Donna, Lorraine, Chris G, Paul, Steve and Jane R were the volunteers today. The weather improved throughout the morning; there were quite a few of the little beetles that annoyed us last Saturday, several different butterflies and moths and lots of bees again. Thanks so much to the people who donated in cash or by Sumup!

Have you seen lots of pollen beetles where you are today? 🪲🌾
If you’ve noticed an explosion of these tiny, shiny black bugs—especially if you’re wearing yellow or white—here’s why!
Millions of them have just emerged from local fields. Now that the crops are drying out and finishing flowering, the beetles have taken to the air en masse in search of fresh food.
Carried by the summer breeze, they are blanketing the area today. They are completely harmless and don’t bite, but they are definitely out in force!
Have they swarmed your area yet? 👇

Volunteering today were Angela, Dave T, Chris P, Dave B, Donna, Lorraine, Chris F, Steve and Jane R. We had a bit of trouble fending off lots of tiny flies which were particularly attracted to the yellow hi viz jackets. The bees and butterflies were out in force too, enjoying the sun and hoovering up all the nectar.

Volunteering today were Cliff, Elly, Chris P, Dave B, Donna, Jane O, Chris G, Ivy, Lynn, Cilla, Steve and Jane R. We were mainly weeding in and above Section 1, while Steve went off on his litter round. Below are also some great ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures from Cliff of his edging around one of the cliff top benches.

The weather was lovely to start with….. then got rather gloomy later, so we finished a little early, just before there was a sharp shower - definitely more April than June.

Chris P, Chris G, Chris F, Cliff, Jane O, Paul, Diana, Lynn, Angela, Brigitte, Jenny, Donna, Dave, Steve and Jane R tackled Section 1 (nearest town) in increasingly blustery conditions. We finished a little early as rain threatened and our trugs kept blowing away! It didn’t stop some lovely passers by popping money in the bucket, though. People can be very generous, thank you!

Wanted

Do you have any builders bags sitting around that you no longer need?

If so, the garden groups in Ramsgate are in need.

The volunteers use these for their Green waste, which is then collected by RTC technicians who take it to Thanet District Council where it can be recycled correctly.

These bags are really helpful too the Volunteer gardening groups around Ramsgate. Please help if you can weather your a small builder/groundworker or a company that can supply us with some, it would be really appreciated.

Thank you.

We were at maximum ‘Chris’ today (F, G, and P), along with Dave B, Donna, Lorraine, Steve and Jane R, trying to bring a little order to the beds on the cliff top today. Even the normally sturdy marigolds look exhausted! At least the beds down below along the cliff edge seem to retain some moisture. A few ‘before’ pictures at the end….

Another gorgeous day in paradise! Luckily, there was a bit of a breeze (which did become less noticeable the nearer we got to the shelter of the Park wall).

We had an excellent turnout - Cliff, Sophie, Chris F, Donna, Dave, Jane O, Chris G, Paul, Lynn, Diana, Brigitte, Steve and Jane R - mostly working around Section 4 (nearest the Park).

The Gardens are looking even lovelier than last week, if that’s possible. The Chine, too, looks fabulous. Valerian is taking centre stage; we have mainly pink and white varieties, with an occasional red. The Broom on the cliff’s edge has such a heady smell…..

Several butterflies and bees were spotted, rather than the ladybirds of last week.
