U10 Spartans Vs Hawkinge Town
A lovely springs day, with a blustery wind made for a good day of football.
The Spartans started well on the front foot playing on the offensive and closing the ball down well, of which a penalty decision should have gone in our favour after great work from Laylan. Battling away, we started to make some chances with strong tackles, good running and passing, the chances soon came behind.
Firstly the crossbar was hit by the Spartans, closely followed by the post. . . . Not to worry though as 3rd time lucky Freddie burst through the defence and finished calmly.
Straight after, the Spartans nearly had another but an outrageous save from the goalkeeper kept the score the same. Half time, a great first half from the Spartans.
The second half started and the Spartans came forwards straight away, creating more chances. The away goalkeeper then made two more brilliant saves before Hawkinge finally woke up and mustered an attack on our goal. Stout defending had seen them kept at bay, but a bobble and Keenness shown by their player before a good finish beat the Spartans keeper and levelled the game.
After this the match was very even and although the Spartans created chances and their keeper made some more unbelievable saves, a hopeful half way punt went forwards from Hawkinge and an unfortunate lapse of concentration (maybe as he hadn’t any thing to do all game) saw the ball squirm under the Spartans keeper with not very much time left to find a leveller.
Well done to all of the players today, great effort, good passing and movement, good tenacity and wing play. Once again just those finishing touches to be a little sharper.
Parents/sports person of the week: Isaiah and Jeremiah (sharing) Great defensive display from Jeremiah, calm and composed whilst being measured. Isaiah with lots of energy and wing play, tricky for their defenders to deal with.
Player of the week: Freddie. Strong display for Freddie after being pipped to the award last week. Neatly taken goal and lots of good interchanging play with the team.
Special shout out to Arthur, bailed the team out and made many a great save already this season. Forget this one and try again next time as we win together as a team and we lose together as a team. Keep your head up!
