Ramsey Choral

Ramsey Choral A community choir based in Ramsey, Isle of Man. This year will feature Ola Gjeilo's beautiful "Sunrise Mass".

We rehearse weekly on Mondays (7.15pm to 9.00pm) from October until May each year now at our new venue, Our Lady of the Sea Catholic Church, Ramsey. Ramsey Choral Society was founded in 1981 and over the last 40 years has performed a wide variety of music including music from the shows, folksongs, and major choral works. We rehearse each Monday evening at 7.15pm in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholi

c Church, Ramsey from mid-September to March and perform one or two concerts over this period. The current musical director is Nigel Harrison who is keen to introduce little-heard or seldom performed music to the Manx public. In 2019 we performed Lars-Erik Larsson's "God Disguised" and in 2020 we paired Hubert Parry's "The Chivalry of the Sea" with Arthur Sullivan's oratorio "The Prodigal Son". Due to COVID our 40th Anniversary season was delayed until 2022 when our main work was Dan Forrest's "Requiem for the Living"; two superb concerts with standing ovations celebrated our 40+ years of music making.

I am so proud of you all, Ramsey Choral and my orchestral friends. Two wonderful concerts of music as diverse as Thomas Tallis, Byrd, Mozart and Dan Forrest and Ola Gjjeilo. All performed so beautifully… I was almost overcome by the emotion. Our audiences were wrapt and so appreciative. A huge thank you to Judith Christian our pianist and the orchestral friends. Our leader, Victoria Hope played so sensitively. To our soloists, Karen Elliott, John Elliott, Jane Murray, Matt and Josh Quinn, my heartfelt thanks. A big shout out too to Frank Woolley, our rehearsal pianist. Ramsey Choral is a wonderful community choir and I am honoured and to be your musical director.

Thank you Ramsey Choral and Isle of Zman Symphony Orchestra for such a great concert performance last night. Beautiful tight singing and wonderful playing by all concerned. A big shout out to Fiona Huyton on oboe for your courageous playing- well played. To Amoré and Georgina, the Mozart Andantino from the Flute and Harp concerto was just sublime.
I love conducting you all and you made my 10th year super special by your singing of the New Zealand unofficial anthem Pokare Kare ana. Truly beautiful and choked me up.
I look forward to seeing you all again soon and beginning to prepare for our next concert. Again we’ll be tackling previously unheard work including Durante’s Magnificat and Ola Gjeilo’s Dreamweaver.
