How much should an MP earn from outside work? Is it okay for an MP to work part-time? Should MPs be able to take work outside Parliament at all? Occasional reminder that your MP Sir Oliver Dowden has three extra jobs, taking up 10 working days per month and makes £320,000/year on top of his MP's salary.

It's been a few years but the Radlett Wire web site has finally had a bit of a makeover. Content's all the same but there's a new look and it should be easier to find historic stories and themes (the Sir Oliver Dowden Sketchy Behaviour Monitor, for instance). Let us know what you think!

We don't post on here very often, because we're shocking slackers obvs, but every now and then we take a minute to update the Sir Oliver Dowden Sketchy Behaviour Monitor, most recently because we noticed that our MP's extra-Parliamentary income now amounts to £320,000 per year (with the latest increase in MPs' salaries that brings his total income to just short of £420,000 per year, putting him very close to the top of the list of Parliamentary earners). https://bit.ly/4b19u95

Our MP Sir Oliver Dowden has taken on another advisory job, this time with a San Francisco-based private equity firm. It's not clear what they're paying him yet but if it's the same as for his other two advisory gigs, then he's now on £30,000/month on top of his MP's salary. We continue to be surprised and kind of impressed at just how useful a home counties MP can be to these corporations.
