Two shrub roses are flowering at the moment on the south facing side at Church View Garden, Rosa Andersonii, is a single rose with a wild rose appearance, so good for wildlife and Rosa Alba Semi-Plena also good for insects both have a good scent and add height to the wildflower ground cover in the area. There are also a lovely lot of Foxgloves in the shady border this year.

Lots of wild flowers are flowering at the moment in the small meadows at Church View Garden, it's lovely to see new species arriving and encouraging to see the way the buttercups are increasing year on year. The Cow Parsley looks lovely at the moment.

A small area in Church View Garden became dominated
by Barren Brome Grass which smothered the other wildflowers
in the area, we have cut the area down and collected the resulting
arisings and taken them to the tip. Apparently Barren Brome
is a problem for farmers growing at the edge of cereal crops,
it can spread rapidly which it has done in this area,
It is an annual or short lived perennial grass and the seed has
only a short viability, so I hope with regular cutting to stop it going
to seed we can cause it to die after a couple of years.
I might think of adding some yellow rattle or even meadow grasses to keep it at bay. It likes disturbed soil. In this area there isn't such a dense sward as there is in the lawn/meadow areas, which appear to keep it from becoming a problem.

We have also removed some of the Lesser Knapweed from the
meadow in the church yard to prevent it becoming too dominant,
everything is benefiting from the recent rain.

New moth for Quorn at the weekend Pinion-spotted Pug. There are only 4 records for this moth on NatureSpot in Leicestershire but it could be recorded on other sites such as irecord. It's a smart Pug!
