A great morning getting the perennial flowering plants in to the Co-op Ladybird Bed today, even with the rain, and lovely to have so many people come up and say how much they love the fresh new plants and colours of the bed!
Huge thanks to Prudhoe Community Partnership and Scotswood Natural Community Garden for enabling us to get all the plants that were needed, and the Co-op for allowing us to take over their bed!
Looking forward to seeing it fill out, look great and attract lots of butterflies and pollinators throughout the weeks and months ahead! :)

Prudhoe in Bloom is back this year, a really good way of bringing gardeny people together, and to give people a chance to see all the lovely gardens, hanging baskets and green spaces around our community 🙂

Lovely morning this morning planting the first phase of the 'Ladybird Bed' outside the Co-op.
Lovely speaking with so many people who seem happy with the improved bed so far. These shrubs are the first to go in, then in a couple of weeks we'll have all the flowery perennials to go in, plus the ladybird sculpture to match the Bee!
Then it should become a much more cheery, colourful bed, attractive for us and for the ladybirds, butterflies and bees :)

Spring is definitely spring-ing at the Wildlife Garden.... with our first sightings of Orange-tip and Holly Blue butterflies, a Chocolate Mining Bee and 22-spot Ladybird... plus some lesser-spotted volunteers! 😀
We'll not be open this coming Thursday, as all volunteers will be helping load up the new 'Ladybird Bed' outside the Co-op with compost, ready to start planting soon!
The garden will be open as usual from Saturday.. and look out for the Wildlife Garden starting to open on Wednesdays from next week too! 🙂

A lovely short video by David, one of the volunteers at Prudhoe Wildlife Garden, showing some of the insect life spotted at the garden over the past year. As spring starts bringing some warmer days, come along on a Thursday or Saturday to see what is awakening in the garden just now :)

Bit of a long shot maybe, but are you feeling energetic and enjoy a good dig? We will be working on the ‘Ladybird Bed’ outside the Co-op again on Saturday from 10 am and this time we will be digging out all the roots of the old bushes, in preparation for adding lots of compost to start replanting with lots of new attractive shrubs that are beneficial to pollinators, birds, wildlife, insects and ladybirds.
We could do with a bit of a hand with the physical job of digging out the old roots if anyone might enjoy a bit of physical exercise and would like to join us! We have spare spades and gloves, just bring yourself, and some good boots :)

Could you spare just a few hours a week at Prudhoe Wildlife Garden to help us open a few more days each week this year?
The wildlife garden, opposite the Asda garage, behind the West Wylam Inn is really taking off this year. It is such a tranquil, peaceful space to sit, walk around, admire the views, enjoy the beautiful plants and see the wide variety of bees and butterflies, ladybirds and hoverflies, dragonflies and moths, birds and bugs, spiders and lots of other insects and wildlife.
To help us be able to open more days a week we need a few more people who could offer just a few hours a week, to come and sit and read a book, chat with people who come, walk around and enjoy the garden and just be happy to spend some time keeping the garden open.
If you could be interested, please come along to the garden on a Thursday or Saturday from 10am and speak to any of us, it’ll be lovely to have you with us! :)
