An interesting hour walking around Risborough attempting to take Abstract and Pattern images. Not as easy as one might expect, but a pint in the Bell after put everything into perspective.

12-January 26 - Malcolm Dodds ‘People’ and Aggregate Round 3 Competitions.

Monday night was the club’s third trophy competition of the season and it was good to see an increase in the number of images submitted for this competition. Kathy Chantler, our judge for the evening, gave us her friendly and concise critique of all the images, appraising each one thoroughly and giving all members constructive ideas on how to improve their work in the future.

The winner on the night with Judges’ Choice for the print section was Godfrey Clements with his image ‘The Blacksmith’. Judges’ Choice for the PDI section was ‘Street Entertainer’ by Caroline Petch. Nine other entries were awarded Commended and Highly Commended status.

Next was the Aggregate Round 3 competition, where we had 22 entries. Here the Judges Choice and winning image was ‘The Wheel on the Pier’ by Godfrey Clements. So, well-done and congratulations to Godfrey who had winning images in two separate competitions on the evening, and to Caroline for her success in the Trophy PDI section.

Congratulations to all the members who contributed images for the competitions.

10-December 25 – The final club night for 2025 -

Well, the “It’s a Knockout” competition was a success, with 72 entries. Thanks to all who took part. It all went swimmingly until the very end when David Gibbs our scorer for the evening, had to cast his deciding vote to choose winner and runner-up, and unfortunately, he had a senior moment and chose the wrong image. Nevertheless, congratulations to Peter Parrey for his winning image, “End of the Day”.

Special congratulations go to Mike Ward who had three images selected in the top nine – Well done Mike.

You can see the top nine images below.

19-November 25 - Snappers Meeting at Orchard View Farm.

What an interesting start for our meeting: very cold and a surprise snowfall. Despite the challenge thirteen members attended and were greeted with a welcoming log fire and warmth.
During the meeting we viewed members images taken in the last four outings: Cotswold Wildlife Park, Bucks Railway Centre, Marsworth Reservoir and Canal and Autumn Colours at Burnham Beeches. It was interesting to see the varied treatments used and differing approaches resulting in friendly, enjoyable banter.

10-November 25 – Competition Evening – John Judd Creative and Aggregate Round 2.

The evening was well supported by members who gave a warm welcome to the Judge, Alan Taberer. The Creative competition was judged in 2 parts: firstly, prints and then the projected images. Following the break the Aggregate was judged as an open competition.

At the end of the evening the Judge complemented all the authors for the high standard of all the entries. The Judges Choice winners were:

Creative Prints – Peter Parrey with “Not Just A.B.S”.
Creative PDI – Alun Morgan with “The end of Summer”
Aggregate – Caroline Petch with “The Watchful Hunter”

There were a total of 8 Commended and 6 Highly Commended images.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and a particular mention of our latest member who bravely entered his first competition.

27-October 25 – Extreme Macro Photography - Presentation by Bernard Foot.

Bernard Foot gave a comprehensive presentation on “Extreme Macro” photography. He set up his equipment ready for an active demonstration later in the evening. After explaining the set-up he went on to describe the theory behind Macro, the various lenses, cameras, extensions, focus bars, software and everything in between.
He then carried out a live demonstration explaining all the steps on the way. To round off the talk he showed many of his finished images of which most were in 3D (he supplied 3D glasses).

The results were stunning. Well done and a huge thank you to Bernard.

We were also pleased to welcome a new member on such a good evening.

15 Oct 25 - Snappers visit Burnham Beeches.

Nine members met up at the Eco Café at Burnham Beeches to photograph the autumnal colours. The weather was rather drab and damp but with a promise to improve later. Unfortunately, the foliage didn’t get the memo that we were coming over and only a few trees had started to turn. There was also refurbishment work to support wildlife ongoing to the ponds and they were very low and unsightly with little wildlife apparent.

The group set off for a couple of hours to make the best of it and meet the challenge to find some interesting autumn images. The weather did slowly brighten in time for a debrief and coffee in the café before making our way home.

Below are some of the images from the morning…

1-October 25 - Snappers Group meet at Wendover for Light Trails.

The group met at the Wendover Library carpark at the unusual time for Snappers of 6:30pm as dusk was falling.
The purpose was to photograph light trail images from passing traffic. Wendover offered a number of opportunities: two mini roundabouts, the High Street and the bridge over the A413. At this time of evening the traffic was busy giving plenty of “targets” and time to experiment with camera settings. It was a useful exercise and we all shared tips and suggestions from each other.

A sample of images are shown below.
