Why are projects not performing?

That's the question Eddy Datubo FAPM, Director of Transformation at the BBC, put to the audience at the APM Project Management Conference 2026.

His answer: it's not about structure, governance or control. It's a people problem.

Eddy turned to an unlikely place to make his point: the 4 x 100m relay.

Jamaica's London 2012 Olympic team ran splits faster than the individual 100m world record. And the most important member of that team, he found, wasn't any of the runners. It was the baton. The mission. The thing they were all committed to protecting and passing on.

Swipe below for his take on building a high-performing team or read his Project article for a complete dive into their impact.

In a complex project landscape, clarity matters.

The APM Body of Knowledge 8th edition continues to provide a shared foundation for professional project delivery.

Inside, you’ll find:

◼️ A clear view of the project lifecycle, from strategy to benefits.
◼️ Insight into emerging priorities like data, artificial intelligence and sustainability.
◼️ A common language to connect project professionals, sponsors and teams.

At its heart, it answers two simple questions: what matters in project management – and why it matters.
Whether you’re building your career or leading change, it’s a resource you can rely on to deliver better.

Across APM, recent activity spans volunteer recognition, policy influence and engagement with the wider profession.

We hosted our Volunteers’ Forum, bringing together volunteers from across the world to recognise the time, expertise and commitment they give to the profession. Their contribution supports APM’s work and helps us connect with and support project professionals. The forum provided an opportunity to reflect on that collective impact and to say thank you.

In Westminster, we launched a new report on strengthening UK infrastructure delivery, with Professor Graham Winch presenting findings drawn from across Europe.

In Edinburgh, members of the team attend Civil Service Live 2026, speaking with delegates about APM membership, qualifications and chartership.

No project professional gets it right from day one.

We asked you to share your early career 'failures' in the project profession, and you delivered. These "I can't believe I did that" moments are all part of the journey. And honestly, they're often where the best lessons come from.

Take a look through the stories below.

Got a 'failure' story of your own? Drop them in the comments to show others they're not alone.

is here. And while the celebrations are important, so is the everyday work that happens beyond them.

Because real inclusion isn't just about awareness. It's about the small, consistent actions that create environments where everyone genuinely belongs, all year round.

That's why we're sharing this checklist from our Foundations of Diversity and Inclusion in Project Management book: https://bit.ly/4fyAjUQ

From building self-awareness around personal bias to speaking up when you see inappropriate behaviour, these are steps you can take to champion diversity in your teams.

Let us know - which step will you be trying out first?

From early careers to industry partnerships, it’s been a week of building connections and sharing insight across the profession.

We visited Network Rail HQ in Milton Keynes to introduce APM to their project management graduates ahead of their September start, opening early conversations about the profession and the opportunities ahead.

Members of the team attended the CIPD Festival of Work, joining discussions on the evolving workplace and the importance of skills, inclusion and development. They also spent time with partners including Assemble You, who provide training materials for APM Learning, and Inclusive Employers, who support our work in diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.

A strong mix of early talent engagement and shared learning across sectors.

What does it take to lead at the highest level in project delivery?

In our latest podcast, Emma speaks with Dave Corbin ChPP, Chief Project Delivery Officer at Gleeds. Dave shares his journey from gas engineer to executive leadership, along with practical advice on building experience, developing clarity as a leader, and progressing in project and programme management.

He also reflects on his experience as a finalist for APM’s Chartered Project Professional of the Year Award and what effective leadership looks like in complex environments.

Turns out, you can't switch off the project manager in you.

Tamsin finds herself quietly using her project management skills outside of her 9-5, and honestly, we get it. It's all in a day's work - running quality checks on the school run to negotiating family holidays with some very tricky stakeholders.

Sound familiar? Read Tamsin's full story: https://bit.ly/4vtLm6e

And let us know in the comments when you find yourself thinking like a project manager in your downtime.
