⏮️ 50 Years of Film at the Broadway continues with a gritty double-bill of Clint Eastwood crime thrillers! 🚔👮

The Broadway reopened as a cinema for a short period in 1976, after operating solely as a bingo hall for many years.

Throughout this socials series, we have been turning back the clock 50 years, to explore some of the films shown at the Broadway during this time.

📆 On the 25th of June 1976, the Broadway cinema ran a double-bill of Dirty Harry (1971) and Magnum Force (1973).

🔫 Dirty Harry is an iconic action-thriller directed by Don Siegel, starring Clint Eastwood as San Francisco Police Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan. The film follows his relentless, often brutal hunt for a deranged sniper named Scorpio.

🏍️ Magnum Force is the thrilling follow-up to Dirty Harry. It follows Inspector Callahan as he investigates a squad of rookie motorcycle cops who are executing San Francisco's most untouchable criminals. The title refers to a .44 Magnum, the heavy-duty revolver used by Callahan.

📽️⏮️ 50 years of the Broadway reaches earth-shattering new heights! 🫨🛘

The Broadway reopened as a cinema for a short period in 1976, after operating solely as a bingo hall for many years.

Throughout this socials series, we have been turning back the clock 50 years, to explore some of the films shown at the Broadway during this time.

This week in 1976, the Broadway cinema ran the star-studded disaster film… Earthquake.

🫨 Earthquake (1974) follows a group of Los Angeles residents struggling to survive a catastrophic city-leveling earthquake.

🎭 The film was directed and produced by Mark Robson, and features an extended ensemble cast led by Hollywood royalty Charlton Heston and Ava Gardner.

🔊 It famously featured "Sensurround," an innovative sound system that simulated the physical rumble of an earthquake inside the theater.

🏆 Earthquake was a huge box-office success at the time, and grossed over $167 million worldwide. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning for Best Sound and Visual Effects.
