Prestwich Death Cafe

Prestwich Death Cafe A safe, welcoming space in which to share our stories and thoughts about death.

What a wonderful final Death Cafe!

As most of you know by now, I've now moved away from Prestwich and so, whilst I'll still often visit, I will no longer be able to facilitate the Prestwich Death Cafe! I'm looking forward to someone taking it over but I imagine this won't be until at least the new year.

On a personal note, I've had a wonderful (almost) two years hosting this. When I first sought to bring a Death Cafe to Prestwich, initial postings were met with perplexity and even some opposition from those who found the concept and name too brazen for a community interest group. So it's been such a pleasure to watch groups of people, month after month, willing to sit together, speak honestly, and hold space for the stuff a lot of us have been taught to run from.

You’ve all made these evenings meaningful in a way that’s hard to put into words - thank you.

Lots of love,
Jo x

Interesting article!

The very existence of life — the fact that we are here at all to the pose the question — calls for something more than physical nature.

"Loss is everywhere. From daily losses this pandemic has brought right up through the death of people we love - loss is everywhere.

Not knowing what to do to help a grieving friend was a big issue Before, and now.... well. With everyone grieving something, running on empty, trying to just not completely suck at showing up and being a good friend... we’ve gotta make this less complicated.

You don’t need to fix someone’s pain. See it, hear it, acknowledge it. Show up, listen, don’t fix.

It really is okay to let people be sad."
