Yesterday it was our very great pleasure to represent Scottish soldiers of the 1540s, as we marked 480 years since the burning of the village of Whitsome during the Rough Wooings. The theme of the day was community resilience, and the local spirit was on full show for thus thoughtful and imaginative commemoration.
On Saturday the Berwickshire village of Whitsome commemorated the burning of the Rough Wooing with a parade led by March Pursuivant and the county's Lord Lieutenant. Poignantly they were joined by Somerset Herald, one of whose predecessors had been murdered in the build up to the War.
