The Lothian Levy 1547 & HM Lyfe Guard 1650

The Lothian Levy 1547 & HM Lyfe Guard 1650 Re-enactors primarily portraying Scottish soldiers from a Hamilton Levy in the mid-16th Century. Part of the Alan Breck's Volunteer Regiment.

The Lothian Levy is part of the Alan Breck's Regiment, dedicated to bringing Scottish history to life. The Levy portray soldiers fighting in the south of Scotland during the campaigns of the mid-1500s, especially the so-called "Rough Wooing".

Yesterday it was our very great pleasure to represent Scottish soldiers of the 1540s, as we marked 480 years since the burning of the village of Whitsome during the Rough Wooings. The theme of the day was community resilience, and the local spirit was on full show for thus thoughtful and imaginative commemoration.

On Saturday the Berwickshire village of Whitsome commemorated the burning of the Rough Wooing with a parade led by March Pursuivant and the county's Lord Lieutenant. Poignantly they were joined by Somerset Herald, one of whose predecessors had been murdered in the build up to the War.

"A Hamilton! A Hamilton!"

We were delighted to take part in the Hawick Reivers Festival again this year.
Even though the encampments had to close early due to the high winds, we had a great time talking to visitors and the parade looked great!
