Congratulations to West Lancashire District Junior Sea Cadets on another highly successful Junior Earthshot weekend.

Over the course of the weekend, Junior Cadets came together to complete the Junior Earthshot Challenge. For those unfamiliar with the initiative, the challenge is designed for Junior Cadets and is inspired by the Earthshot Prize, launched by Sir David Attenborough and HRH The Prince of Wales in 2020. Its aim is to encourage young people to consider practical ways to help reverse the climate emergency and contribute towards repairing the environment by 2030.

The challenge is delivered using a specially designed booklet and structured modules, guiding the Juniors through five project areas. Activities undertaken included building bird feeders as part of the Restore Nature project; creating eco-bricks and seed paper for the Build a Waste-Free World project; role play exercises to explore individual carbon footprints and identify ways to reduce them; and a beach clean, during which a significant amount of plastic waste was collected — along with many other engaging and educational activities.

A huge thank you goes to all the staff who supported the weekend. Your time, commitment and dedication play an essential role in making opportunities like this possible, and your efforts are greatly appreciated.

(Includes coach travel, accommodation, and all meals)

The District is pleased to announce a Boating Week at Thrapston, offering cadets a full programme of water-based activities, skills development, and team-building opportunities. There are 20 cadet places available.

👥 Adult Staff Requirements
To support the safe and effective running of the week, we are seeking:
2 Night Supervisors
1 Chef
1 Rowing Instructor
1 Paddlesports Instructor
1 Powerboat Instructor

📣 Register Interest
Cadets and CFAVs are asked to confirm their interest by Tuesday 24th March to Lt (SCC) T Archbold RNR - District Training Officer.

On Tuesday, Southport Sea Cadets welcomed the District Officer for a visit. We are proud to announce the promotion of three Cadets to the rank of Cadet 1st Class. The District Officer had the honour of presenting the new rank slides and number 1 uniform badges, marking a significant milestone in their training.

Congratulations to these Cadets on their exemplary hard work and dedication to the unit.

While this unit is situated outside our District, we wish to extend our warmest congratulations to Warrington Sea Cadets on being awarded the Canada Trophy for the Best Sea Cadet Unit in the country for 2024/25.

We take particular pride in sharing this news as the Commanding Officer during this period was Lt Cdr (SCC) Anthony Gleave RNR, who has since transitioned to the role of our District Officer. We offer our sincere congratulations to Lt Cdr (SCC) Gleave for achieving such a prestigious honor during his final year in command.

We look forward to his leadership as he guides the units of the West Lancashire District toward these same exemplary standards.

Congratulations to the cadets of West Lancashire District who participated in the Leading Cadet Advancement Board.

This marked the first board to be conducted at District level following the transition from Area level, and it proved to be a great success. The board comprised 12 cadets, all of whom had spent several weeks preparing and rehearsing in advance; their dedication was clearly evident to all instructors in attendance. It was highly encouraging to witness the effort and commitment demonstrated by every cadet, each of whom is a credit to their Unit and to the District.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the instructors who gave their time to support the day. The board would not have been possible without your dedication and commitment.

It has been an excellent and rewarding weekend for the West Lancashire District Juniors.

A dedicated STEM weekend was organized for our Juniors, during which they enthusiastically participated in a wide range of activities. As always, they approached every challenge with energy and commitment, and their achievements were outstanding.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all the staff who generously devoted their time to support this course. Your contributions are invaluable, and both the District team and the Cadets deeply appreciate your continued dedication and efforts.

NWA Rowing Competition 2025

Congratulations to all the teams who took part in this year’s event, held in Barrow-in-Furness. Following your first-place wins at the recent District competition, you all represented West Lancashire with pride and performed brilliantly!

A special thank you to Fleetwood, who stepped in on behalf of Southport for the Junior Sea Cadets category, and a huge thanks to Blackpool for helping to complete several teams at the last minute. It’s inspiring to see our District come together in such a supportive and collaborative way!

Every single Cadet who participated was an outstanding credit to the District.

Another action-packed weekend for West Lancashire District Cadets!

A huge well done to all the Cadets who participated in the District Boating Course at Fleetwood this weekend.

We welcomed Cadets from across the District, and were pleased to have a guest from Chorley Unit in East Lancashire District join us too.

Throughout the weekend, cadets took part in a range of waterborne activities at various levels, achieving an impressive total of 46 qualifications.

As always, a massive thank you goes to our incredible volunteers — your dedication and hard work makes all of this possible. We couldn’t do it without you!
