Salford by the Sea - Salford Children's Holiday Camp

Salford by the Sea - Salford Children's Holiday Camp https://www.justgiving.com/salfordchildrensholidaycamp It was left by bequest, to the children of Salford . Detrimental or deflamitory comments will be removed.

Situated on the main coast road between Prestatyn & Rhyl, Salford Children'a Holiday Camp was established in 1926. Originally named Salford Poor Children's Camp, its purpose has always to provide affordable holidays to school children More often than not it was the child's first or only holiday.. The label 'poor' was dropped from the name as times changed, but this should not deflect from its hi

story - for many disadvantaged children, their holiday at the camp was often the first and only time children saw the sea... earning its nicknames 'Salford by the Sea' & 'The Jam Butty Camp'. It is administered by an elected Management Committee and Trustees who volunteer their time & skills to manage the site & its operational function. Many of whom have been doing so for over 20yrs - dedicated people who care. Saved from closure in 2014 following a community campaign, camp is currently undergoing a huge renovation project, including new staff on site & updated facilities. ,, and will re-open on April 20th 2015 for the holiday season. We operate solely on charitable donations and annual pledges from local businesses. This group is for people to share their memories of the camp, to follow our progress going forward, provide community help & support the Management Committee & Trustees. Please note this group is monitored by the Management Committee for inappropriate content.

This year marks 100 years since Salford was granted official city status — an important milestone in the city’s proud history. Steve OHara’s great, great grandfather Samuel Delves played a significant role in that achievement during his time as Mayor of Salford. Alongside his civic work, he also founded the Salford Children’s Holiday Camp, helping provide opportunities and experiences for local children and working families at a time when such support meant so much. Although his contribution to the city and its people is still remembered by some, sadly his grave and headstone at Weaste cemetery have deteriorated over the years. He and the family are now raising £2,000 to help repair the gravestone, with any additional funds going directly towards the holiday camp. https://www.justgiving.com/page/stephenohara-1?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL
