"Photography is not just about the camera."
Tonight at Prestatyn Camera Club, we had the privilege of welcoming guest speaker Ian Smith for a deeply moving and thought-provoking session on visual storytelling with a purpose.
Ian shared insights from his powerful photographic exhibitions, including The Prostate Gap and Prostate Cancer: Every Picture Tells a Story, a celebration of men living after prostate cancer, supported by their partners.
Through honest portraiture and careful attention to light and medium, Ian demonstrated how photography can give voice to under-represented experiences, dismantle health taboos, and highlight the essential role played by loved ones and partners throughout diagnosis and recovery.
The central message from the evening could not be clearer: Prostate cancer often develops without any symptoms at all.
For men aged 40 and over, waiting until you feel unwell is simply too late. Breaking the silence saves lives.
