Wednesday Night’s Open Challenge 📸

We had a great turnout for this month’s Open Challenge, and it was a real pleasure to see such a diverse range of work on display. It’s clear that everyone has been busy lately; the progression across the club is great to see.

A sincere thank you to John Smith from Rhyl Photographic Society for joining us. We really appreciated his feedback and the time he took to share his expertise with us; it made for a very constructive evening.

Well done to everyone who submitted work. Here are a few highlights from the night.

📢 Tomorrow Night at Prestatyn Camera Club!

Don't forget, tomorrow evening is our externally judged challenge! We are delighted to welcome John Smith, Secretary of the Rhyl Photographic Society and a pillar of the L&CPU for nearly four decades.

John’s journey began in the darkrooms of Rochdale Technical School, and he has since become a cornerstone of the North West photographic community. With an incredible 37 years on the L&CPU Executive Committee and four terms as President, his experience is legendary.

As a listed PAGB Audio Visual judge and former Sound Engineer, he brings a unique perspective to the "Audio" side of AV production. While John says his titles don't make him a judge, the fact that he is constantly invited back to clubs across the region proves he's one of the best in the business!

He prides himself on fairness, deep knowledge, and finding the right conclusion. We can’t wait to see which images catch his eye!

Join us tomorrow:
🏢 Meliden Community Centre
🕖 Doors open at 7:00 PM
👋 Visitors welcome!

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, hearing a judge of John's calibre evaluate work is the best way to improve your own photography.

Last night club members had a trip to Talacre to photograph the Point of Ayr lighthouse. It was very windy and the sand got everywhere, but we were rewarded with a beautiful sunset.

Whether you’re rocking the latest mirrorless setup or you’re a master of the smartphone snap, this one is for you! 📸📱

Prestatyn Camera Club is thrilled to welcome the legendary Robert Millin (MFIAP, EFIAP/d3, PFIAP) for an exclusive, tell-all masterclass that proves great photography is about the eye, not just the gear.

"Confessions of a Competition Addict"

Robert is pulling back the curtain on his world-class career. This isn't just a slideshow, it’s a deep dive into how to capture "the shot," whether you're navigating a professional studio or just using the camera in your pocket.

What’s on the Agenda?

The Art of Versatility: From the raw grit of documentary portraits to the split-second "Intensity" of world-class gymnastics.

The Nature Lens: Hear the story behind his famous Borneo Tree Frog shot (and how to get the shot even in a downpour! 🐸).

The Pro Roadmap: Practical tips on moving from your very first entry to prestigious international distinctions.

The "Oops" Moments: Robert shares the anecdotes and mishaps that happen on the way to creating a masterpiece.

Bottom line: You don't have to stick to one lane to be a master of the craft. If you love capturing life’s moments on any device, come get inspired by one of the best in the business!

📸 Behind the Lens: The Art of Macro & Fluidity

Ever wonder how those mesmerising, abstract shots of swirling colours are made?

Here’s a little "behind the scenes" look from our latest session!

Our members have been getting creative, experimenting with ink-in-water photography. It’s all about patience, precision, and catching that perfect bloom of colour at just the right millisecond.

🛠️ The Setup:

The Subject: A glass tank filled with water and vibrant inks.

The Gear: Steady tripods and macro lenses to capture every tiny detail.

The Secret: Soft, controlled lighting to make those colours pop against a clean background.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out with your first camera, Prestatyn Camera Club is the place to experiment with new techniques and share your passion for photography.

We meet regularly to discuss gear, share tips, and go on local photo walks. All skill levels are welcome!
