Highbury Roundhouse Youth & Community Centre Since its foundation in 1974, the Highbury Roundhouse has grown into a thriving non-profit, community-based organisation.

We provide a safe and welcoming environment that encourages people, particularly those from disadvantaged and disaffected communities, to engage in activities that will enhance their self-esteem and encourage them to participate in community activities. We provide educational and recreational facilities for people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds that live or work in Highbury and the surrounding

area. From pre-school to old age, there is something for everyone! The organisation serves a large cross-section of the community, such as one-parent families, the elderly, people with disabilities and young people from different backgrounds and abilities. We host a Childminders' Group and weekly soft play sessions for young children. For the elderly, we have lunch and social clubs, one of which is for members of the Afro-Caribbean community. We also provide a home for various community groups and organise social and recreational events throughout the year. Our organisation has particular expertise in working with children, young people and older adults, and focuses on delivering educational and recreational activities that will make a difference in their lives.

🔥 Cooking Heat Challenge — Round 2 complete!

Today we welcomed the judges to Highbury Roundhouse for Round 2 of the The Mayor's Fund for London and Jack Petchey Foundation Cooking Heat Challenge.

Our young people prepared a home-cooked menu of:

🥥 Coconut chickpea curry with rice
🍌 Caribbean banana fritters with freshly whipped cream

The inspiration behind our menu was simple: food brings people together.

Highbury Roundhouse may not be home, but it is a place where our young people come together to spend time, learn, have fun and share food. From cooking together and birthday cakes to pizza and even a packet of crisps, some of the best moments at youth club happen around food.

After a practice run earlier in the week, the team adapted their recipes, divided up the jobs and worked together to prepare and plate both courses for our four judges — with plenty of music playing in the kitchen along the way. 🎶

We’re incredibly proud of what they produced and how well they worked together.

Now we wait for the results! 👀

🎉 WE’VE BEEN SHORTLISTED! 🎉

We’re incredibly proud to share that our She Is Supported (SIS) programme has been shortlisted for the Youth Work Award at the Children & Young People Now Awards 2026! 💛

SIS is delivered in partnership with Brandon Centre, Highbury Roundhouse, Mary’s Youth Club and Prospex, bringing together youth work and mental health support for girls across Islington.

From girls’ groups and 1-to-1 mentoring to residentials, trips, activities and wellbeing support, SIS has been all about creating safe, supportive spaces where girls can build confidence, make connections and thrive. ✨

We’re so proud of everyone who has contributed to SIS — our brilliant partners, staff and, most importantly, the girls and young women who make the programme what it is. 🫶

To have this work recognised nationally is incredibly special.
