Originally established in 1972 as the Potters Bar & Little Heath Scout & Guide Band, over the years, the band has grown and become very much part of Potters Bar's and Hertfordshire's music community. In the late 1980's, the band transitioned into The Marching Blues and in 2006 the band made a more significant change, establishing the foundations which makes up the band of today, Hertfordshire Show
band (Registered Charity No.: 1079924)
The Hertfordshire Showband is one of the UK’s most successful marching bands. Based in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, the band has performed and competed at many exciting and prestigious events : from the Lord Mayors Show, Wembley Stadium and Disneyland Paris; to the World Music Contest, the World Showband Contest and the European Marching & Showband Championships, with a great record of achievement in these competitions. But as a band we are just as at home playing smaller events within the local community, such as the Potters Bar St Georges day Parade or on a bandstand at local village days. Highlights of our annual calendar include : the Autumn Training Weekend, where we learn new music in some detail (and have a lot of fun too!); the Christmas Concert, held in Potters Bar in December, where we can show off new additions to our repertoire; and the May bank holiday training weekend in Staverton, where the focus is on marching and drill training, culminating in the band annual dinner, where we celebrate the achievements of the band over the course of the year. We are a friendly, sociable and supportive group of musicians, with the Senior Band ranging in age from 12 to adult. The Junior Band caters for newer players welcoming brass, wind or percussion players form the ages of 9 upwards. There are no fixed entry requirements for joining the band – all we ask is that you have some prior experience of playing your instrument (possibly at school or through private lessons) and that you are enthusiastic to play some new music and to make some new friends! For more information, check out our website, email any questions to the address below, or simply come and join us at Mount Grace School, Potters Bar on a Monday night from 8-9.30pm for the Senior Band, or from 7pm for the Junior Band.
