Tomorrow evening, come with us to the Pyrenees.
Not literally - not yet.
But for an hour, discover a route with an extraordinary story. Hear how people escaping occupied Europe made their way across these mountains during the Second World War, and discover how you could follow in their footsteps in September 2027 as part of Aggie's 27 Challenge - Freedom Trail.

The Different Travel Company will talk us through the journey and answer your questions, and Aggie's CEO Andy Gordon will explain why this route has been chosen for 2027.

One week until we tell the story of the Freedom Trail.

On 6 October, you are invited to join us online and discover the extraordinary history behind Aggie's 27 Challenge - Freedom Trail.

This is your opportunity to hear about the historic escape route across the Pyrenees, discover what our 2027 journey will involve and ask the experts from The Different Travel Company your questions.

Perhaps you already know you would love to do it. Perhaps you are simply curious. Either is fine. Come and hear the story first.

A huge shout-out to our amazing trekkers! 🥾☀️

Just 3 weeks to go until they head to the Sahara — and they’ve been putting in the training hours, clocking up the steps and getting ready for the adventure of a lifetime!

Sleeping bags are ready, bags are being packed… and we know they’re really looking forward to those luxury makeshift toilets! 😂🚽

A fantastic morning yesterday at the second We See You | University of Portsmouth event, bringing together organisations supporting the Armed Forces community. 💙

Our RFA Pastoral Worker, Debbie Sutton, spoke about the Emotional Cycle of Deployment and its impact on personnel and families.

We also heard from Sir Martin Connell on identity and transition, Dr Liam Satchell on the SCiP Alliance’s work with Armed Forces children, and Roger Morrad, who delivered a deeply moving talk.

We’re proud to be part of We See You and look forward to helping drive this work forward.
Our Armed Forces personnel and their families need and deserve the right support - our work will continue to strengthen support available. Great to collaborate with others in this field.

High in the Pyrenees, those walking the Freedom Trail will pass the wreckage of a Halifax bomber. Further ahead lie the high mountain passes and, eventually, the crossing into Spain.
These aren't simply landmarks on a walking route. They are reminders of the people whose lives became entwined with these mountains during the Second World War.

In September 2027, we will walk through that history as part of Aggie's 27 Challenge - Freedom Trail.

✍️ Agnes Weston was a bit of a writer… but did you know Sophia Wintz was too?

From Agnes’s early personal letters to sailors, her writing grew into monthly publications like Naval Brigade News and later Ashore & Afloat — reaching thousands of sailors and supporters.

They also wrote short pieces tackling specific issues in the Royal Navy, raising awareness, encouraging change and sharing the real experiences of those serving at sea. And, of course, Agnes eventually put pen to paper for her autobiography, My Life Among the Bluejackets.

But Agnes wasn’t the only one with a story to tell. Sophia Wintz wrote too, including Our Blue Jackets, her account of Agnes’s life and work among sailors.

Imagine reaching the foot of the Pyrenees knowing that freedom lay somewhere beyond the
mountains.

During the Second World War, people escaping occupied Europe crossed these mountains in search of safety.

Allied aircrew. Refugees. Jewish people fleeing persecution. Others resisting occupation.
Many relied upon local people and escape networks to guide them through unfamiliar and dangerous terrain.

Their journeys are part of the history remembered by the Chemin de la Liberte - the Freedom Trail.

In September 2027, Aggie's supporters will walk that route.

Walk in their footsteps. Carry their story forward.

Across the Pyrenees lies a route once travelled by people escaping occupied Europe during the
Second World War. Through darkness, difficult terrain and uncertainty, they crossed these mountains hoping to reach safety on the other side.

In September 2027, Aggie's will follow in their footsteps.

Aggie's 27 Challenge - Freedom Trail will take us along the historic Chemin de la Liberte from France towards Spain.

Royal Fleet Auxiliary Pastoral Worker Debbie Sutton felt privileged to be invited to the unveiling of a plaque commemorating RFA seafarers at the seafront memorial to the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleet in Weymouth.

The occasion provided an opportunity to honour and remember the dedication and service of RFA seafarers, past and present, and to recognise their important contribution to life at sea.
