Creating Neurodiverse Workspaces is easy, and very impactful, and
even small changes can make a big difference.

Neurodivergent people thrive when workplaces are inclusive, welcoming, and understand different thinking styles. Our Portsmouth-based Into Work Service helps neurodivergent people find meaningful jobs—and we’re proud to support employers who want to build truly inclusive teams.

Here are some quick, impactful ways to make your workplace more neurodiversity-friendly:

🧠 Raise awareness
• Encourage open conversations
• Offer neurodiversity training for your team

📣 Inclusive recruitment
• Reduce interview anxiety
• Advertise roles in ways that reach neurodivergent candidates

💬 Clear communication
• Be direct
• Avoid sarcasm
• Ask specific, not vague, questions

🛠️ Simple adjustments
• Noise‑cancelling headphones
• Quiet spaces
• Extra breaks
• Specialist tools or tech

Brilliant advice.

It’s Neurodiversity Celebration Week. We love that steps are being made to make public spaces like these more accessible. Here's a few we found below ⬇️

Neurodiversity is not a mental health problem. But many people can be neurodivergent and experience a mental health problem.
Adjustments to public spaces can make life easier and more accessible for neurodivergent people and many others, such as:

Those who have a mental health problem - e.g one that can cause sensory disturbances or panic attacks
People taking a mental health medication that has cognitive side effects
Those who have chronic pain conditions
People with a learning disability
Check your local space/venue for updated and latest accessibility options.

Relaxed cinema screenings 🎞️
There are a number of cinemas such as ODEON Cinemas which offer relaxed screenings. This is what Odeon implement during relaxed screenings:
- No adverts or trailers will play before the film
- Films will be screened with subtitles
- The house lights will be on a low level throughout and the volume is reduced
- You can move around the screen, leave and return to the screen as needed.

Supermarket quieter hours 🛒
Some supermarkets have certain hours where they may reduce lighting, turn off/ reduce music and avoid store announcements or other noises where they can. This can vary. Some details we found below:

Tesco:
9am–10am every Wednesday and Saturday.
They also have Sensory Support Boxes which you can borrow at some stores.
Morrisons:
2pm-3pm every Monday to Friday,
9am-10am on Saturdays and the first hour of trading on Sunday.
Asda:
2pm-3pm Monday to Thursday

Relaxed theatre shows 🎭
There are a number of theatres that offer relaxed shows such as the National Theatre :
- performances allow for noise and movement in the auditorium
- There is a chill-out space for anyone who may need time away from the -performance
- You can re-enter when needed

Football Club Sensory rooms ⚽
These vary by football club and need to be booked in advance.
They are a space that is designed to support people who are neurodivergent and who may experience anxiety from attending these events.

Manchester City Football Club
Liverpool Football Club
Chelsea Football Club
Arsenal Football Club
Sunderland AFC
Middlesbrough FC
Cardiff City Football Club
Bristol City Football Club
Norwich City Football Club

Quieter options at museums 🏛️
There are some museums that offer limited early or late entry for those who may have additional sensory needs. Or may have other things like quiet rooms people can access. We found some below - times may vary. Check out their website for more information and booking or see if your local museum offers this too:

National Waterfront Museum (Swansea)
Natural History Museum (London)
The Postal Museum (London)
Science Museum Group (London)
Museum of Liverpool (Liverpool)
Science and Industry Museum (Manchester)
National Space Centre (Leicester)
