Well done to these four who will hold their roles for the next year 👏👏👏

They will undertake a Leadership Day with on the 1st of April to kickstart their roles and leadership journeys 🚀

NEW YOUTH CABINET MEMBERS! ✨

We've welcomed FOUR new members to the Youth Cabinet recently as we begin the transition of our current Year 11s moving on to new institutions in September, meaning we now have 26 amazing members!

Ark Charter Academy, , Springfield School and continue to be represented by our newest additions, with three of them having previously been involved in our sister forum, the Council of Portsmouth Students (CoPS), and one of them who currently is (and joined our recent 'The Future of Portsmouth' presentation, too)!

In our most recent meeting, we were preparing for the upcoming Student Voice Celebration Day - an annual celebratory event bringing together CoPS and the Primary Council of Portsmouth Students (PCoPS), as well as others who are involved in Student Voice across the city of Portsmouth.

At SVC Day, we will have a stall to showcase who we are and our recent work, as well as delivering a Consultation to the Primary students on our three Subgroup topics to gain their thoughts, ideas and opinions to help fuel our future projects and campaigns!

📢 We're inviting the young people of Portsmouth to attend our first PYC Climate Conference on Thursday 17th April 2025, 9.45am - 2pm, in the Portsmouth Changemaker Studios.

🔍 Understand the city island we live on, discover its unique environmental challenges and learn what we can all do to help the changing climate to protect your future!

🎉 The day will be filled with icebreakers, discussions, workshops, and activities, all focused on Climate Change and the Environment, led by our amazing Youth Cabinet Members!

ORDER, ORDER! 👏

Maheep did the city of Portsmouth proud on the famous green benches of the House of Commons' Chambers for the UKYP Sitting!

Did you know the UK Youth Parliament are the only external group allowed to hold debates in the chambers?! What an honour!

Although Maheep didn't get a chance to speak this time, she was keen to share her story during the debate for the Motion on Political Literacy:

"As of my knowledge, I’m the only Afghan Sikh girl in this room and coming from a country that is autocratic and doesn’t support girls education, I believe more political education in UK schools would help young people understand how decisions impact their lives. Since moving to Portsmouth in 2022 and thriving in my education and youth voice journey, I wish for others to be empowered to participate in the democratic process and shape their future today, not tomorrow!'

We are so proud to be part of Maheep's Member of UK Youth Parliament journey and as she approaches the half-way mark of her two-year term, we can't wait to see what else she'll achieve in 2025 and 2026! 🙌

HOUSE OF COMMONS SITTING! 🔔

Today, our Member of UK Youth Parliament, , is once again representing Portsmouth at this year's UK Youth Parliament House of Commons Sitting in London!

Maheep and MYPs from all across the UK will be part of 5 Motions, in which she's most looking forward to the ones about Transport and Minimum Wage - we can't wait to hear how she finds this full-on day and gets on with 'Shaping Our Future, Today Not Tomorrow'!

CoPS 21st! 🎉

Tonight, some of the Youth Cabinet members joined the recent CoPS Chair and Vice-Chair to celebrate the Council of Portsmouth Students 21st Birthday!

Some of the Youth Cabinet members have been involved in CoPS over the past few years, moving into PYC to continue their Student/Youth Voice, and so we loved seeing everyone come together and celebrate!

ANNUAL CONFERENCE! 🗣️

Our amazing Member of UK Youth Parliament, Maheep, is representing Portsmouth at this year's MYP Annual Conference at the University of Warwick in Coventry!

Maheep will attend two Policy Committee sessions based on her MYP Policies, those of the Youth Cabinet, and her personal interests: the Department of Health & Social Care, and the Department for Business & Trade and Work & Pensions, where each group will look over the previously submitted proposals and decide what they want to represent!

We can't wait to hear more about Maheep's experience, including meeting other MYPs in-person for the first time!

FIRE AND RESCUE! 🔥

Tonight, Meghan, Talia, Theo, Amelia, Chan and Freya visited the new Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service Fire Station in Cosham and were consulted on their Proposed Safety Plan for 2025-2030, including three proposals for the group to scrutinise and question, reflecting the thoughts of themselves and other young people in the area!

Thanks to all the team who welcomed us and showed us around the facilities, we really appreciated the incentive to picking our brains!

MYP AND MP MEETING! 📆

On Friday, our Member of UK Youth Parliament, Maheep, meet with Stephen Morgan MP to catch-up and discuss collaboration!

Maheep said: 'The meeting was extremely pleasing - I really enjoyed it! I appreciated how Stephen adjusted to arrange a time for our meeting in his busy schedule. I’m really glad that I had the opportunity to discuss some really helpful ideas and actions.'

Discussions included Maheep's MYP Priorities, as well as the three subgroups of the Youth Cabinet and what the young people of Portsmouth have been telling us they are concerned about, as well as Stephen's MP and Minister priorities and action plans.

We can't wait to continue to work with Stephen and bring about important changes for everyone in our great city!
