Looking for something different this summer? Our sailing courses are the perfect way to get out on the water, learn new skills, and be part of a welcoming club community.

We offer flexible options to suit everyone:

2.5-day courses (Monday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Friday) for all ages and adults
1.5-day adult courses (Friday evening + full Saturday) designed to fit around work

As a non-profit club, every booking supports local opportunity. Our courses are delivered by our own home-grown, RYA-qualified instructors—a passionate and talented young team who consistently receive outstanding feedback, especially from adult learners, for their knowledge, professionalism, and supportive teaching style.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to build confidence, this is your chance to get started. And it doesn’t stop there… many of our sailors go on to enjoy day sails to the Skerries, trips to Portballintrae, and even overnight dinghy adventures further afield.

Take a course, join the crew, and start your sailing journey this summer.

In Memory of Very Rev. Dr. Houston McKelvey OBE, QVRM

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of the Very Rev. Dr. Houston McKelvey OBE, QVRM, a long-serving and esteemed member of Coleraine Yacht Club.

Houston, together with his wife Roberta, played an integral role in our cruising section for many years They were well known for their passion for sailing, having owned and sailed their Telstar trimaran off the North Coast, and, more recently, their Colvic designed cruiser, “Kate”. Their presence and camaraderie were deeply appreciated by all who sailed alongside them.

Dr. McKelvey was not only an enthusiastic yachtsman but also a respected author and broadcaster. He served as Dean of Belfast, leading the congregation at St Ann’s Cathedral from 2001 to 2011. During this time, he was widely recognised for his charitable efforts, raising millions of pounds for charity in his role as the renowned “Black Santa”.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time. His legacy and contributions to the club and the wider community will not be forgotten.

Huge congrats to our Treasurer Mark whose coastguard crew have picked up a well earned blue light award.

Mark has about five more lives running in the background than most of us-yet he’s somehow always the one with time to stop and catch up or lend a hand.

He never makes a fuss about any of it-which is exactly why it’s worth making a fuss about him.

Well done and well deserved!

That’s a wrap! Well done UCD for topping the board and to QUB for both hosting and making the finals! Students from all over Ireland joined us in the 🥶 but sunny North Coast and we wish them safe travels home to Dublin, Galway, Cork, Limerick and beyond. An impressive 60+ races held in one day and some super boat handling skills.

Huge thanks also to the volunteers for phenomenal generosity of time, energy and the loan of some very wonderful RIBS. 🥰.
