How it growing??? 🌱

Some Swell folk are in the process of cultivating a whole range of fruit and vegetables and herbs and we are hoping some of this wonderful homegrown produce will form part of a community food sharing event later this year 🍅🥒🧅

So far our growers have held community seed swaps, plant exchanges, info sessions and meet-ups in Portrush Library and even some guerilla gardening!

If you’d like to grow along with our Swell Community Gardeners it’s not too late to get involved - join the community newsletter here:

https://swellcommunitygarden.aweb.page/join-swell-community-garden

If you’re already growing we’d love to see a few photos of how you’re getting on and where you’re growing - whether it’s your garden, window sill or balcony, wherever!

Last month Swell’s Gemma shared Swell Portrush’s past experiences of bringing people together to host their Fun Palaces. Over the years Portrush has created Fun Palaces in Metropole Park, Kelly’s Village and at our Creative Riot in Portrush Town Hall. This year we hope to help Portrush create their 7th Fun Palace as part of Swell Festival 2026! Stay tuned for October…

Have you seen Portrush’s new trees? Some Swell folk joined .ht to help plant native trees along Dunluce Avenue and The Bowl. They also helped with wild flower seeding in order to improve Portrush’s biodiversity.

If you’re feeling green fingered and inspired .ht are planning some marram grass planting in the the near future- keep and eye on the Swell or .ht socials for upcoming dates and another opportunity to gather with Portrush folk in the outdoors.

🚮 Portrush Community litter pick 25th April

📍Meet at Dunluce Centre Car Park

Delighted to be organising a Portrush Community Clean-Up on Saturday 25th April 🧤🌿

This is a simple but important opportunity for us all to come together and take pride in our town. Every bit of litter lifted makes a difference, and it sends a clear message about the kind of place we want Portrush to be.

📍 Meet at Dunluce Centre Car Park
⏰ 10:30am – 12 noon

Gloves, bags and litter grabbers will all be provided – just bring yourself and a willingness to help.

Whether you can stay for 10 minutes or the full morning, your support will be very welcome.

Let’s work together to keep Portrush clean, green and something we can all be proud of 💚

SAVE THE DATE 🎉

Swell Portrush is very happy to announce 🥁🥁🥁

SWELL FESTIVAL 2026

What would you like to create with us this year?

All and any ideas are welcome. All we ask is that Swell activities are created by us and for all of us, and therefore are as accessible, inclusive and affordable as possible. Let’s celebrate the creativity, resourcefulness and generous spirit of Portrush, together.

If you’d like to offer any ideas or suggestions (no matter how small or unformed as yet), or simply want to lend your support in some way, please do get in touch!

Swell folk have enjoyed a well earned rest and period of reflection over the winter months but we have been kept warm by the ongoing efforts, spirit and generosity of our community - the Christmas lights at Dhu Varren, the work of REACH, the Christmas tree switch-on and the panto are just a few of the highlights.

Now that life within the land, with Swell, and Portrush is beginning to stir, we are starting to make plans for this year and what Swell might do or be.

Keep an eye out for updates and upcoming get togethers where we will be keen to hear your dreams and ideas for Portrush this year and beyond 🌱🌱🌱

Repair Cafe North Coast this weekend!

17th Jan 2026 from 11am - 1pm

Portstewart Men’s Shed is kindly hosting at their workshop.

14a Central Ave (beside the Portstewart primary school)

Repair Cafe North Coast, part of Repair Cafe NI, invites you to bring along your broken items to be repaired, on the day, by our volunteer repairers. See your item being repaired and pick up some tips on how you could tackle it yourself next time. Enjoy a cuppa and a chat while you wait!

Did the dog attack your cuddly toy, do you have a hole in your favourite jumper, does your dusty bike need an MOT or do you have a temperamental electrical item? Come along and give our superb volunteers the opportunity to bring it back to life and at the same time reducing waste, saving money and best of all building community.

Please give as you can, donations are important to help with essential costs.

Items can include electronics, clothes, bikes, toys and small appliances but only one item per person please!

Hot drinks will be provided for free thanks to the incredibly generous support of Causeway Coffee.
