ATLAS Arts

ATLAS Arts Making & sharing art through long-term projects, events, film, residencies, workshops & gatherings Open access to tools and knowledge is important to us.

We work with artists and local residents to have conversations that are rooted in this place and this time, through a programme of long-term projects, screenings, residencies, meals, workshops and sharings. We work with art in different ways – from smaller, quieter gatherings, to bigger, celebratory events and performances. We love books, publishing, film and food, and finding new ways to come tog

ether to make and speak. We pay attention to the social, political and global significance of these conversations and the building of communities in between. We have a growing collection of zines, seeds, books, equipment for borrowing, and a studio for making and binding books.

It was a lovely morning of learning, dreaming, creating, and chatting - photos to follow.

In the meantime, a few big thank yous as it’s been great to work with local businesses such as Tòrr, Skye Floors, and Shilasdair Yarns.

The exhibition itself is still open everyday 12-4pm until Thursday @ Raasay Community Hall. All are welcome to pop in for a quiet moment or settle in for the afternoon.

Crann nan Teud | Tree of Strings – a School of Plural Futures Session in collaboration with ATLAS’ Gaelic arts programme.

The School of Plural Futures programme continues with this collaborative event with ATLAS’ Gaelic Officer, Eilidh MacKenzie, whose project centres on Roderick Morison, An Clàrsair Dall (The Blind Harper). A historically significant figure as one of the last professional Highland harpers of the 17th Century, he was also a renowned bàrd, connected with Clan MacLeod of Dunvegan Castle.

The day will be based on conversations with invited guests exploring themes around the harper’s life and work, some of the historic and contemporary harps and music of the Celtic nations, connections with Gaelic culture and poetry, and how music and song are being created in a contemporary context.

There will be a light lunch followed by a visit to Dunvegan Castle to continue the conversation and experience the spaces the harper and his contemporaries would have performed in.

Priority will be given to those joining us who are aged 35 and under.
