ATLAS Arts

ATLAS Arts Making & sharing art through long-term projects, events, film, residencies, workshops & gatherings Open access to tools and knowledge is important to us.

We work with artists and local residents to have conversations that are rooted in this place and this time, through a programme of long-term projects, screenings, residencies, meals, workshops and sharings. We work with art in different ways – from smaller, quieter gatherings, to bigger, celebratory events and performances. We love books, publishing, film and food, and finding new ways to come tog

ether to make and speak. We pay attention to the social, political and global significance of these conversations and the building of communities in between. We have a growing collection of zines, seeds, books, equipment for borrowing, and a studio for making and binding books.

We are delighted to host an artist talk with Anna Macleod, who has been developing beautiful work at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig this Summer, through their Jon Schueler scholarship.

Anna is a Scottish-Irish visual artist, researcher and educator whose work explores relationships between land, water, culture and community.

Working across sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, video and sound, her practice brings together archival research, fieldwork and collaboration to examine how people understand and interact with landscapes. She will be speaking about her research and work interests around Gaelic cosmology through landscape heritage and agricultural calendrical practices.

🌸 Today is Emmie McLuskey's last day with ATLAS after leading the School of Plural Futures project since late 2020.

We've had so much fun with Emmie and have been so lucky to learn along with her and the wider group. Though she reminds us that a person is not an individual, we do want to say how fab Emmie is; she has total commitment to people, relationships, ideas, and creativity that is really rare. She's allowed the project to grow in such an easy and intuitive way.

Thank you Emmie, we know you'll stay close and part of everything to come 🌼

Roll up, roll up! 🗞️

The Dùdan is launching on Thursday 10th September, we will be celebrating in the Skye Gathering Hall Side Bar from 6pm onwards - come and join us!

Dùdan is a new one-off newspaper by Caitlin Ferguson, produced as part of a commission with ATLAS Arts. One of the inspirations was a headline in the Clarion of Skye, the island's first self-published newspaper, which ran from 1951-57.

"Record Number of Visitors to Skye"

This headline in particular brought a question: what would follow that same headline now?

“Dùdan is a wee newspaper built around this idea. A collection of local voices were invited to respond to headlines from the past without seeing the original articles. The result is a series of reflections, stories, poems, artwork, observations and imaginative responses that sit somewhere between conversation and archive."

In keeping with the Dùdan's ethos, your local friendly newsboy, Daniel Cullen will also be distributing the paper in local hotspots across Skye on 10 September, with all the warmth and wit of the original Clarion, blended with a healthy dose of contemporary charm.✨️

Come along, get your copy, hear from the contributors and raise a glass to the voices of Skye past, present and future.

✨ Launch night: Dùdan ✨

Join ATLAS and Caitlin Ferguson on Thursday 10 September at 6pm at the Skye Gathering Hall side bar to celebrate the launch of the Dùdan, a new one-off newspaper exploring the voices, stories and self-publishing traditions of Skye and Lochalsh.

Dùdan is the result of a 2025 ATLAS Arts open call, inviting an artist to delve into histories of publication making, and the continuing culture of self-publishing in Skye and Lochalsh.

Caitlin was selected, and began exploring various local publications, including school magazines, and the archives of the Clarion of Skye, whose headlines offer a glimpse into how Skye once saw itself - the stories it chose to tell, the hopes it held, and the language it used to express itself.

Come along to hear more about the journey behind Dùdan, pick up your copy and toast the voices of Skye past, present and future.

Places are limited so book your place now! Link in bio.

The event is advised 18+ (under 18’s welcome with an accompanying adult).
