💥The largest naval battle of the First World War ended on this day in 1916.

The Battle of Jutland saw around 250 British and German ships clash in a long-awaited fleet action. After 12 hours of fighting, more than 8,000 sailors had lost their lives with 25 ships sunk.

Neither side achieved a decisive victory. But Jutland proved a turning point in the war at sea. The German fleet failed to break British naval dominance, helping shape the course of the conflict for years to come.

Jutland failed to live up to public expectations of a 'second Trafalgar', but it was a very important battle for both sides and had a profound impact on the course of the First World War.
