The Portishead Railway Group is a community organisation campaigning for the Portishead to Bristol railway line to be re-opened. The line reopening is at a crucial stage at the moment and needs your support to make sure it actually happens this time around. Portishead has undergone vast housing development over the past few years - in some wards, its population has increased by 158% between 2001 a
nd 2011, and it will soon become the largest town in the country without a rail link. There is a strong case for the re-opening of the line to Bristol for the whole community and surrounding area. It will provide significant easing of congestion for those trying to commute to and from Bristol, not to mention reducing Portishead's carbon footprint. It will also provide young people with an alternative, cheaper and faster route into Bristol to see friends and have a safer, car free, night out in town. We have a growing membership but need your help to make the difference and bring the railway back to Portishead, especially at this crucial stage, where plans to reopen the line are underway but are by no means signed and sealed.
