Pop Factory Future in Doubt as Luxury Office Plans Circulate

Plans have been suggested that if the community campaign to save The Pop Factory fails, the landmark building in Porth could be demolished to make way for luxury office developments.

The former soft drinks factory, later turned music and television studio, has long been regarded as a cultural symbol of the Rhondda Valleys and a key part of its modern creative identity.

However, with redevelopment interest growing, local reports indicate that the site’s central location and transport links have made it attractive to commercial investors seeking high-end office space in the region.

Campaigners supporting the Save the Pop Factory initiative warn that losing the building would erase an important part of Welsh cultural heritage and reduce already limited creative infrastructure in the Valleys.

Efforts continue to secure funding and bring the site into community ownership, with supporters hoping a decision on its future will be made following upcoming planning discussions in Wales.

The coming months are expected to be decisive in determining whether the building is preserved for cultural use or replaced by private commercial development.

Local residents say the outcome will shape Porth’s cultural future for decades, influencing opportunities for artists, young people, and community projects alike moving forward.
