For the past week, a team of experienced ship agents from Global Defense Logistics and I have been in Kiel, Germany, for the annual Kiel Week celebrations.
We supported a total of 22 naval vessels from the NATO group. The first 48 hours were very busy, ensuring that all the requested services were in place for their arrival. These ranged from organising hire cars, ensuring the correct-sized fenders were delivered and placed in the appropriate berth, to ensuring much-needed food supplies were delivered on board.
In the following days, we visited each vessel to ensure all requests had been met and spoke with the supply officers in case there were additional needs while they remained in Kiel.
In the final days, we arranged all the departure services. For example, we ensured the pilot was on board in good time for the ships’ planned departure time and that the correct number of tugs were booked as requested by the various ships.
All departure paperwork was completed, checked and signed off by the various supply officers. Overall, Kiel Week was a great success for GDL, and we look forward to supporting the event again next year.
