Thrive Domestic Abuse Services

For almost 40 years, Thrive Women’s Aid has provided a haven for women, children and young people in Neath Port Talbot, helping them to rebuild their lives and regain their independence in safe communities. We provide emergency accommodation, community based services, access to support groups and therapeutic interventions, a specialist children and young people service, as well as training and emp

loyment opportunities. Our mission is to prevent abuse from occurring, provide safe and trusted interventions when abuse does occur and enable individuals to progress from the trauma they have faced in order to build successful independent lives. We don’t just help and support women in need, we help the whole family to thrive to ensure the cycle of abuse is broken for good. Our aim is to encourage, enable and empower, as we believe that, given the right resources, everyone has the strength and capability to achieve, no matter how hard their circumstances.

Today is Elder Abuse Awareness Day 💜

This day serves as a reminder that abuse knows no age limits and the number of older women impacted by abuse is still increasing in the UK.

At Thrive Domestic Abuse Services, we are open to all survivors regardless of age, sexuality or ethnicity.

Through our EDGE project, we provide support to women who are affected by domestic abuse, including older women, disabled women, Black and minoritised women and those from the Roma, Gypsy and Traveller communities.

We’re also thrilled to shine a spotlight on a remarkable volunteer who dedicated over 243 hours to Thrive from 2025 to 2026! This inspiring individual has now taken the leap into employment with us!

Reflecting on her journey, she shares, "Throughout my time as a volunteer, I was supported and helped meticulously by all staff members and any questions, queries or guidance I required to fulfil my administration role was given without hesitation."

Thrive Domestic Abuse Services is proud to announce it has been awarded a grant of £10,000 from Rosa, the UK Fund for Women and Girls to launch an early intervention and prevention campaign.

Early intervention and prevention in domestic abuse, especially within the relationships of young girls, is crucial because this is often when patterns of harm first emerge. Young people are still learning what love, boundaries and respect look like. If controlling or abusive behaviours become normalised early on, they can shape expectations of relationships for years to come.

Addressing concerns at the first signs of coercion, manipulation or violence helps prevent these harmful patterns from escalating or becoming lifelong cycles.

This is why Thrive is keen to launch a local campaign focused on education and empowerment, emphasising healthy relationships, self-worth and recognising early warning signs so that we can begin to break the cycle of abuse for good.

We are incredibly grateful to Rosa for their support and this fantastic opportunity to make a difference in our community.
