This year’s GV70.tri was the biggest yet—and it’s been growing year after year!
Held annually at Aberavon, this middle-distance charity triathlon is becoming a standout event in Neath Port Talbot.
This year’s race, which was held last month saw:
🔵 235 athletes take on the middle-distance triathlon
🔵 30 junior athletes compete in the aquathlon
🔵 Over 60 children join the Teleri Mia Mini Mile
Thanks to continued support from the Heritage, Culture Tourism and Events (HCTE) part of the UKSPF Place Prosperity Fund, and a host of local businesses, GV70.tri is thriving. This funding has been key to helping the event move toward long-term sustainability.
And it’s not just about race day— GV 70.tri - Aberavon Middle Distance Triathlon is giving back to the community too!
Starting this month, they’ll be hosting Youth Mental Health First Aid courses for local sports clubs. They’ve also made financial contributions to:
🟠 Sunflower Café, Taibach
🟠 Aberavon Schools Rugby
🟠 Aberavon Lifesaving Surf Club
🟠 Aberavon Green Stars Christmas Appeal 2025
🟠 Darcy’s Journey
Andrew Davies, Event Director said: “The GV70.tri began in 2021 with just 14 athletes. What started as a simple training day has evolved into a full-scale race weekend—an inclusive, community-driven event guided by our core value: giving back through sport.
“We’re truly overwhelmed by the response from the triathlon community. The impact this event creates—both on and off the course—is what inspires us to keep moving forward. We couldn’t achieve what we do without local sponsors and very importantly the support from the HCTE part of the UKSPF Place Prosperity Fund.”
The future is also looking bright with Welsh Triathlon coming onboard to support the junior Aquathlon next year.
Managed by Neath Port Talbot Council, the aim of the HCTE part of the UKSPF Place Prosperity Fund is to support projects that invest in our local heritage and culture (including the arts), which have a positive impact on wellbeing, social cohesion, tackling isolation and facilitating access to services.
The UKSPF Place Prosperity Fund is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
