Reminder – NJC Pay Update

Just a reminder of the recent NJC pay update shared by Mark Fisher, UNISON NPT Branch Secretary and NJC Cymru Representative.

The NJC Committee met on 7 April and agreed that the 3.3% pay offer falls short of what members deserve. To keep momentum, the offer was rejected without a lengthy consultation.

To improve our chances of success, a more consolidated approach has been adopted. Previous ballots have often failed to reach the 50% turnout required by law. By focusing on employers where membership and engagement are strongest, we increase the likelihood of achieving a successful ballot and putting real pressure on employers.

This means NJC members in NPT Council and Celtic Leisure will not be included in this ballot. While disappointing, this focused strategy gives us the best chance of securing a better pay offer for all.

All members still have an important role to play, please continue to support the campaign and help raise awareness.

Thank you for your continued support.

Hot Weather in the Workplace – UNISON Guidance

UNISON NPT has received a number of queries regarding high temperatures in the workplace.

Unfortunately, there is currently no legal maximum working temperature set in the UK. However, employers are still required to ensure that workplace conditions are “reasonable” under health and safety legislation.

When indoor temperatures start to reach around 30°C (or lower for physically demanding roles), this may be considered uncomfortable or unsafe, and staff can reasonably ask for adjustments.

If you are experiencing difficulties due to heat, you are encouraged to raise this with your manager in the first instance. If concerns are not addressed, please contact UNISON for further support.
