With nearly six months of strike action from Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board Health Visitors, it’s an absolute disgrace that the health board have allowed this dispute to continue. The longer this dispute goes on, the more impact this will have on families, which is not what our members want. They want to be back in work.

The health board should be ashamed of themselves and need to get this resolved.

Welsh Government need to step up and hold individuals to account for these failures. It’s now time for Plaid to intervene and follow up on the promises made to resolve this dispute once and for all so families get the support they need.

🚨 Striking Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Visitors visit Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Today our members visited the Eisteddfod to chat to the general public about their ongoing strike action.

From conversations on the ground it’s clear that the public support our members in their campaign. It’s about time the health board recognised this and gave our members the band seven pay banding that they deserve.

Good to also chat to Rhun ap Iorwerth, we’ll be continuing our calls for Plaid Cymru to step in and get this dispute resolved.

Today, our striking Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board Health Visitors were in Pontypridd, continuing their call for the health board and the Plaid Cymru government to bring an end to their dispute.

We also took the opportunity to hand our petition to Alan Cox MS, calling for the resignation of Hywel Daniel, Executive Director of People and the health board’s lead negotiator in this dispute.

The longer Cwm Taf refuses to recognise and honour the pay banding our Health Visitors deserve, the greater the impact this dispute will have on the delivery of healthcare to children across Wales.

Our members are simply demanding what is right and fair: to be paid at the appropriate level for their skills, qualifications and experience.

🚨 Thousands of child health appointments in Wales being missed as health worker strikes continue 🚨

New FOI data highlights impact of strikes at Cwm Taf Health Board continue to refuse pay increase. Strikes continue until October.

Thousands of children across south Wales are missing vital appointments with health visitors as a strike by workers escalates.

Health visitors at the Cwm Taf health board have been on strike since February over the refusal of the board to honour their own job evaluation and grading that has seen every health visitor lose up to £9000 a year in pay.

New FoI data obtained by Unite now shows the critical impact the strikes are having on families in south Wales. The data shows that nearly 24,000 health visitor appointments were due across March, April and May 2026. Only just over 900 of those visits were completed. Meanwhile, across Bridgend council area, health visitor referrals are at just 10 per cent of the level they were at last year.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said:

"The longer Cwm Taf health board refuse to honour the pay banding our health visitors deserve, the greater the effect this strike is having on the health care of children in Wales.

"Our members are demanding what is right and what is fair and they will have the full backing of Unite in their fight to be paid at the appropriate level for their skills and experience."

Health visitors who do vital community outreach work for new mothers and families, are furious that they are only being paid as band six workers. This is despite internal job grading now matching them as a band seven acknowledging a masters qualification. The CTM University Health Board has refused to acknowledge its own job descriptions and pay health visitors accordingly.

Health visitors are rallying in Pontypridd tomorrow (Friday) where high levels of community support for striking workers will be on display. Health visitors have been on strike for 23 weeks and are now moving to an even more disruptive strike pattern throughout the summer and autumn. Strike action will take place on:

27-31 July; 3-7 August; 10-14 August; 17-21 August; 24-28 August; 31 August-4 September; 7-11 September; 14-18 September; 21-25 September; 28 September-2 October; 5-9 October; 12-16 October; 19-23 October; 26-30 October.

Unite regional officer Paul Seppman added:

"Unite is calling on the new Plaid Cymru government in Wales to step in and end this strike, just as they promised to do in opposition. They need to tell Cwm Taf health board to pay the proper salary to our members and get them back on the streets of south Wales, ensuring children and young families across the region are being seen when they need to be.

"These FoI requests show the real-world impact the strikes are having but this is a dispute entirely the making of the health board. When their own internal review shows that health visitors should be a band seven it is mind-boggling they continue to refuse to honour this."

On Friday we visited Cabinet Minister for Health & Care, Mabon ap Gwynfor’s constituency office to hand over the petition calling for Hywel Daniel’s resignation. Not only has this dispute been shamefully managed by Mr Daniel, but he has also received a scandalous increase of £30,000 while our female health visitor members have been striking for fair pay.

The Minister must now intervene and deliver on promises made. Plaid Cymru called for the Health Board to upgrade all band 6 health visitors to band 7. They must now ensure this happens so this dispute can be resolved and our members can return to doing what they love.

🚨 Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board Health visitors set for further strikes after health board director receives huge pay increase 🚨

Unite calls on Hywel Daniel to resign and for Plaid Cymru government to end dispute

Thousands of people across Wales have called for the resignation of Cwm Taf health Board director Hywel Daniel after the Unite union revealed that he has received a £30,000 pay increase during the dispute, involving underpaid health visitors.

The failing HR director already earned over £200,000 and received a whopping increase despite refusing hundreds of health visitors the grading they rightfully deserve, which is costing female workers around £9,000 per year.

On Tuesday, health visitors will march to the Senedd in Cardiff and hand in a petition signed by thousands of members of the public calling on Mr Daniel to resign given his catastrophic mismanagement of the dispute.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This is a shocking example of rewards for failure.

“Hywel Daniel’s actions are at the very heart of this dispute and yet the health board think it is acceptable to give him a whopping pay rise. He is guilty of underpaying hardworking and dedicated health visitors. Rather than be rewarded he should be removed.”

The petition will be handed to the Plaid Cymru health minister Mabon ap Gwynfor with the demand that Plaid fulfil its election promise to resolve the dispute. Plaid has been in government since May and yet health visitors are being forced to take further strike action to get the pay they are rightfully owed.

In addition to previous strike dates which has seen health visitors take strike action since 23 February 2026, members of Unite have now voted overwhelmingly to continuing this strike action which could now be extended to a further 12 months.

Unite regional officer Paul Seppman said: “Plaid Cymru talked the talk in the run up to the election, now is the time for it to commit to resolving this dispute. If Plaid cannot deliver on this simple promise, you would have to question thier credibility on delivering for the wider NHS going forward.

“If this is not resolved shortly, then either Plaid has lied, or it is showing itself as a weak government in its first days of administration.”

Once again, our striking Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board Health Visitors have been out in communities across South Wales, this time in Bridgend and Pencoed, speaking with local businesses and members of the public, raising awareness of their dispute.

With the general public and local businesses across South Wales standing in support of our members, it beggars belief that this dispute continues without a resolution and strike action likely to be extended.

It’s about time the health board realised this strength of feeling and resolved this dispute.

Our call also remains for Plaid Cymru and the current Health Minister to act now and help get this dispute resolved before the summer recess.
