Port Isaac RNLI

Port Isaac RNLI The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Today the station operates an inshore D class lifeboat. This station is classed as a Discover station.

Situated in a 700-year-old fishing village, Port Isaac has seen lifeboats launching off the north Cornish coast for over 100 years. Our crews from Discover stations are equally welcoming to visitors but many of these stations were built before visitors were considered. These stations normally open their boathouse doors during the summer months.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along today and purchased one of our famous bacon baps in support of our local RNLI lifeboat station in Port Isaac.

Thanks to your generosity, we raised several hundred pounds for this fantastic cause. Your support is greatly appreciated and will help the RNLI continue its vital lifesaving work.

A special thank you also goes to our wonderful volunteer support group, whose hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm made the event possible.

Thank you all for helping make the day such a success!

Port Isaac Lifeboat was tasked at 10:43 today by Falmouth Coastguard to reports of a child in the water and two kayaks adrift off Boscastle.

On arrival on scene at Penally Point, the crew found that the casualties β€” a father and his 14-year-old son β€” had managed to scramble onto rocks on either side of a wide gully, approximately 100 metres apart. The swell in the area was running at around 1.5 metres.

The crew assessed the situation and landed a crew member ashore to reassure the casualties and assist them into the lifeboat. Despite the challenging conditions, both casualties were successfully recovered separately into the lifeboat and transported safely to Boscastle Harbour, where they were met by the awaiting Coastguard team.

The lifeboat then returned to sea to recover both kayaks and tow them back to Boscastle Harbour.

The crew returned to Port Isaac after spending over two and a half hours at sea. Images courtesy of Richard one of our own...

🌞 HOT WEATHER SAFETY AT THE COAST 🌊

With temperatures soaring, many people will be heading to the coast to cool off. Please stay safe and look after one another.

⚠️ A few important reminders:

πŸ–οΈ Swim at lifeguarded beaches where possible
🌊 Be aware of strong currents and changing tides
🚫 Never jump from cliffs, or rocks into unknown water
πŸ‘€ Keep a close eye on children at all times near water
πŸ’§ Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun
🍺 Avoid alcohol when swimming or supervising others
πŸ“± In an emergency along the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

Even on the hottest days, the sea can be dangerously cold and conditions can change quickly.

Please enjoy the sunshine responsibly and help keep everyone safe this summer β˜€οΈ

Welcome to Port Isaac, enjoy the weather and be safe....happy bank holiday.

"Float to Live could save your life. Remember: - Tilt your head back with ears submerged - Relax and try to control your breathing - Use your hands to help you stay afloat - It's okay if your legs sink, we all float differently

Practice these steps at a supervised location, like a swimming pool or lifeguarded beach so you know what to do in an emergency.

From all of us at Port Isaac RNLI we extend our heartfelt condolences to our fellow search and rescue colleagues at Marine Rescue NSW, following the tragic incident in Ballina, Australia.

The loss of their two volunteers is felt on a global scale and is a sobering reminder of the immense danger search and rescue volunteers face every day at sea. We recognise the profound impact tragedies like this have on families, crews and communities. Our thoughts are with them all.

We honour the courage, commitment and selflessness of those involved, and of everyone who dedicates their lives to saving lives at sea. They will not be forgotten. Fair winds and following seas πŸ’™
