Porlock Weir Gig Club

Porlock Weir Gig Club Pilot gig-rowing club based at Porlock Weir, West Somerset. She arrived at Porlock Weir in January 2019. ​2020 Goose by Andrew Nancarrow was completed.

Porlock Weir Pilot Gig Club was founded in 2018 by Ben Allerton who recognised the growing need for the sport on Exmoor, in this fast growing traditional sport. After founding the club a training gig was kindly borrowed from Boscastle Pilot Gig Club (rival) to enable potential new members to get a taste of the sport and begin on water training. This created a large amount of interest and within 12

months the club had over 40 members, this number is still growing. ​ In December 2018 we were successful in bidding for the opportunity to purchase Circe which was gifted to the CPGA from Nankersey.

Bank holiday weekend was pretty special! Two crews out down the weir, fabulous fun rows after giving Goose a spruce post and a crew up the lake enjoying evening sunset vibes. And even better, we had the pleasure of testing our brand new very kindly sponsored by seats💙💜🩵handcrafted by the fabulous so all our members can row gig&s$ free! HUGE thanks to Simpson Law for supporting our club, a truly wonderful local law firm that make wills, succession and tax easy! Plus they’re both really rather wonderful peeps too! 🙌🙌 🩵💜💙
