Routes to Roots Poole

Routes to Roots Poole Routes to Roots provides rough sleepers & vulnerably housed people in Poole with hope for the future.

Founded on Christian principles, Routes to Roots seeks to help all homeless, newly homed and vulnerably housed adults in Poole regardless of their faith. The charity aims to achieve long-term outcomes for its clients through partnerships with all other interested parties. Since acquiring the three-bed ‘Amos House’ in 2015, they have provided short-term supported housing for former rough sleepers,

working with the local authority to move them on into permanent accommodation. The charity opened Poole’s first building solely dedicated to helping the town’s homeless and vulnerably housed on 21 March 2022. Genesis Centre on Hill Street is destined to become the hub for all support and help available locally from charities, churches and the local authorities – a one-stop place of change. The building is wholly owned and operated by Routes to Roots, which also celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022. The charity employs one full-time and one part-time member of staff.

Some people arrive at Routes To Roots needing a hot meal.
Others need a shower, clean clothes, or simply someone to listen.

Whatever the need, we want to be there... every day, consistently, without uncertainty.

That’s why regular giving matters so much.

We’re building The Routes Community - “Rooted in Kindness” - a growing group of people committed to standing alongside those experiencing homelessness in Poole through monthly support.

Regular donations help us plan services, support more people, and build lasting relationships with those who rely on us.

Together, small monthly gifts can create something powerful:
A dependable community of kindness. 💚

Today’s the day! 🧘‍♀️

Our incredible volunteer Mirja and her yoga group are taking on 324 Sun Salutations to raise vital funds for Routes to Roots. This wonderful group are all aged between 58 – 80 years young and are confident that they will succeed with this tough challenge.

They’ve already raised an amazing £1,723… which means they are just £77 away from their £1,800 target. So close you can almost feel the final stretch!

If you’ve got a few pounds to spare, now’s the moment to help them cross the finish line and support people facing homelessness in our community.

Every donation makes a difference 👉 https://www.gofundme.com/f/the-homeless-through-routes-to-roots-poole

Another great example of positive partnership working. 👏🏻

We're delighted to see Kim, Mork and Mindy settled and safe in their new property and we wish them all the best! 😊

When fewer than 1 in 10 hostels accept pets, people experiencing homelessness are often forced to choose between shelter and the companion who keeps them going. No one should face that choice.

Kim’s story shows what’s possible when services work together. With support from BCP Council, Routes to Roots Poole and the brilliant team at StreetVet, Kim and her much‑loved dogs, Mork and Mindy, have now moved into a permanent home, together.

Read more about Kim’s story, and how you can find support in the comments.

In just a few weeks, this incredible group will be stepping onto their yoga mats for something far bigger than themselves. 🧘‍♀️

On Tuesday 24th March, a determined team aged 58–80 will take on 324 Sun Salutations in relay to raise vital funds for Routes to Roots, supporting people experiencing homelessness in our local community.

Yes… 324. 🌞

There will be stiff muscles, tired shoulders and a whole lot of grit, heart and humour.

If you’re able to, please consider donating. Let’s turn this determination into direct support for those who need it most:

We were delighted to welcome the brilliant 1st Lytchett Guides to Routes to Roots 💛

During their visit, they learned about the realities of homelessness, challenged common misconceptions, and explored the many different paths that can lead someone to needing our support.

The Guides also took a tour of the Genesis Centre; including the behind-the-scenes spaces that make a real difference every day, from shower and laundry facilities to rooms used by our GP and support partners.

A huge thank you to such a thoughtful and curious group for taking the time to learn, listen and engage.

If your school or community group would like to visit the Genesis Centre and learn more about our work, please get in touch with Tracy on [email protected] - we’d love to welcome you

This winter has been bitterly cold, and throughout the Christmas period SWEP has been active across the area. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our team, partners and volunteers and, of course, your incredible support - we’ve been able to keep the doors of the Genesis Centre open through the night, offering warm beds, safety and breakfast to those who need it most. 💛

Running overnight and for extended hours has meant higher bills, but it has also meant warmth, dignity and care for people facing the cold alone.

We know times are tough for so many. But if you’re able to spare even a small amount this winter, please know that every penny goes directly towards supporting the most vulnerable in our community.

🙏 Please donate to our winter campaign here: https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/29501

Your generosity truly makes a difference. It helps us reach people who often feel forgotten, with compassion, care and hope.
Thank you for thinking of others.

💛
