🎶 A very special musical morning at Wickmeads 🎶

Residents, relatives and friends recently gathered in the Stour Lounge for a wonderful surprise visit from members of the Salvation Army, arranged especially for resident Ron.

Ron was an important part of his local Salvation Army Band for many years, so seeing familiar faces and hearing some of his favourite hymns again made the morning incredibly meaningful.

Favourite songs were called out for the band to play, while friends who have known Ron and his brother since childhood shared stories and memories between the music. ❤️

It was lovely to see how much the familiar hymns resonated with Ron, while everyone else enjoyed the fantastic performance and warm atmosphere.

We’re delighted that the Salvation Army has agreed to come back and visit us again soon!

🧵👗 What a lovely morning at Fern Brook Lodge!

Residents were joined once again by Jan from Rural Rhymes and Reminiscence for a wonderful session filled with memories, poetry and conversation.

This month’s theme was fashion through the decades, with Jan bringing along items and stories inspired by styles from the 1930s onwards.

It sparked lots of reminiscence as residents chatted about clothes they once wore, changing fashions and special memories from years gone by.

There were plenty of smiles, shared stories and laughs throughout the morning, making it another much-loved visit from Jan. 💙

🏥💙 Care South’s Community Fund has donated £1000 to Dorset County Hospital Charity, supporting its Emergency and Critical Care Appeal.

The appeal is helping to fund enhanced facilities and equipment for Dorset County Hospital’s new £100 million Emergency Department and Critical Care Unit, which is due to be completed in 2027.

The donation was presented to Simon Pearson and Sally O’Neill from DCH Charity by Simon Bird, CEO of Care South, alongside Ashley Smith, Home Manager at nearby Maiden Castle House.

Simon Pearson, Head of DCH Charity, said the support from local organisations such as Care South is vital in helping the hospital go above and beyond for patients now and in the future.

Simon Bird said: “We’re proud to support DCH Charity's Emergency and Critical Care Appeal through our Community Fund and contribute towards facilities that will make a real difference to local people.”

This latest donation follows a previous £1,000 contribution from Care South’s Community Fund to the appeal last year.

🎉 A new community hub has officially opened in Gillingham! 💙

We were delighted to welcome the Deputy Mayor of Gillingham, Cllr John Kilcourse, alongside local businesses, community groups and organisations, to celebrate the official opening of the Fern Brook Community Hub at our Fern Brook Lodge care home.

The new hub offers a free, welcoming space for local groups, organisations and residents to come together, hold meetings, enjoy activities and build friendships. 🏡🤝

Lauren Taylor, Home Manager at Fern Brook Lodge, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many people to celebrate the launch of our new Fern Brook Community Hub. It is already being used by local groups and organisations, and we would love to welcome even more people to enjoy the space.”

It was wonderful to see so many local organisations supporting the launch, helping us celebrate this exciting new chapter for the Gillingham community.

Last week the Deputy Mayor, Cllr John Kilcourse was delighted to attend the official launch of the Fern Brook Community Hub.

The hub has been designed to provide a welcoming space for local groups, organisations and members of the community to hold meetings, enjoy activities and socialise together.

What a wonderful facility to have in Gillingham to support our local community by bringing people together.

🎶 A wonderful afternoon of music and memories at Maiden Castle House! 🎶💙

Residents at our Maiden Castle House care home in Dorchester enjoyed a heartwarming singalong with Fee, the newest member of our Activities Team, and Sue, the wife of one of our residents. 🎤✨

Together, they led a lovely afternoon of familiar favourites, including ‘If I Was The Only Girl In The World’ and ‘I’ll Be With You In Apple Blossom Time’, filling the home with music, smiles and cherished memories.

Resident Kath shared: 💬 “The songs brought me back to when I was a girl.”

It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together, reminisce and enjoy some much-loved tunes, while giving Fee a warm welcome to the team. ❤️

🐾 Paws, prizes and plenty of wagging tails at Elizabeth House!🐶🏆

Residents at Elizabeth House care home in Poole enjoyed a paws-itively wonderful day when the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Tracey Newman, and her four-legged companion, Bambi, joined us for a special community dog show! 🐕💙

Our residents took on the important role of judges, choosing fun categories including ‘Waggiest Tail’, ‘Best Trick’ and ‘Fluffiest Tummy’. There were plenty of cuddles, impressive tricks and happy faces as dogs of all shapes and sizes competed for medals, trophies and tasty treats! 🥇🐾

The Mayor praised the warm, family atmosphere at Elizabeth House, saying it felt "more like a home than a care home."

A huge thank you to the Mayor, Bambi and everyone who brought their furry friends along to make the day so special. It was a fantastic celebration of community spirit, companionship and, of course, Food, Fun and Friendship! 💙

🎨💕 Creativity and Cherished Memories at Fern Brook Lodge care home

Residents at Fern Brook Lodge care home recently enjoyed a wonderful morning of creativity and friendship as we welcomed back Fabric Sewn Beautiful for another fantastic craft workshop.

This time, residents got busy creating their very own memory boxes, each one as unique and special as the person making it! From beautiful patchwork designs and colourful patterns to a magical star-lit sky, everyone embraced the opportunity to express their creativity and make something truly personal. ✨

One particularly heartwarming moment came when a resident shared that the fabric heart she had made during a previous Easter workshop was now proudly hanging above her grandson's cot. 💕 A lovely reminder of how these activities can create lasting memories and meaningful gifts for loved ones.

A huge thank you to Fabric Sewn Beautiful Workshops for delivering another inspiring workshop, and to our wonderful Activities Lead, Tash, and the team at Fern Brook Lodge for continuing to organise such engaging and meaningful experiences.

At Care South, we believe that activities like these are about so much more than arts and crafts. They're about encouraging creativity, building confidence, sharing memories and enjoying those special moments of Food, Fun and Friendship. ❤️
