D-Day 6th of June 1944, a truly momentous moment in time for which we should all be forever grateful 🇬🇧🫡

38 years later….on the 6th of June 1982, I walked through the the main gate at The Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, CTCRM to begin a new life …..A special day for me…

I am humbled and honoured to had served with those giants who went before….and those who followed…

Many of Carl’s family served …Carl would have (Would have been an amazing Bootneck) but understandably he respected Mum wishes not to ….following a tragic accident to a military family member.

He’s got metal …..! Any person prepared to stand in the ring gets my respect! To be a World Champion in this discipline..Hats Off!! 🇬🇧🫡

“Our boy” affectionately said, is Carl Hobley and he is fighting Volodymyr Skurtu at the O2 Arena on 25th July 2026…👊.

From his own account he’s been a bad lad in the past… but he has made good…. I countered with a full career in the Royal Marines is like 22 years of undetected naughtiness 😜…(Definitely a bit of skullduggery whilst aboard TANGO 7 on Intrepid 😜…We were the Bain of Dave Lawton’s life…. But professionally 2nd to none).

Tonight we had the privilege of hosting Carl and his family as his sponsor RFS are VERY to be one of Carls preparations…He’s a true British Bulldog. Thanks Carl for bringing the belt along !!
Looking forward to cheering you on !!

An interesting morning today with a drop in for a brew and some scoff by the lads from Bovi undergoing “Jackal” driver training …. That’s me, I’m learning the army lingo 😜🤣…

Megan and Violet made a surprise visit which added a whole new dimension of nice ! As you might notice Megan has a little bump and it’s not “fat” …Note the pointy finger 😜….Sept for your information…Stand by for cards and flowers and pressies …We are definitely spoiling her !!! Sorry Megan couldn’t help myself. Huge congratulations to you and James x.

Then to top off the day RB Project Q sponsor Adrian formerly APS Grinding Services ( Company now sold as retirement has arrived) and son took TANGO 7 out for a bit of fishing and ….result!!!

What makes us veterans “different”?…….Although part of the community (integral I might add) we are set apart…..Why? A life of service is “different” ….Most have experiences and “stories” to tell that people in the civilian world would be incapable of comprehending….Like ….

This week is particularly poignant for Steve Overall former RN…He served on HMS Coventry down South.

HMS Coventry (D118), a Type 42 destroyer, was sunk by Argentine Air Force A-4 Skyhawk jets on May 25, 1982, during the Falklands War. Acting as a radar decoy with HMS Broadsword, she was hit by three bombs, causing her to capsize and sink within 20 minutes with the loss fof 19 crew members.

Steve has volunteered to help out with TANGO 7 . Today 28th May 2026 with Derek, Steve (and Natalie thx for the video x) did the familiarisation trip so, Steve is ready for tasking.

We had a great turnout on Tuesday afternoon at our Veterans Event in Broadstone.

We were delighted to welcome guest speaker Rob Eaton from Rob's Filling Station and Project Q.

A big thank you to our GPs and Social Prescribers for supporting the afternoon, and our nursing team who were on hand providing blood pressure and cholesterol checks.

Special thanks to our fantastic Care Coordinators for organising a great afternoon and supporting our veteran community.
