🚀 A Busy Weekend of Space Training!

Last weekend, we delivered both Blue and Bronze Space courses across two full days of training, with Blue Space taking place on Saturday and Bronze Space on Sunday.

Across the weekend, a total of 24 cadets took part, representing 8 different squadrons from across Dorset. It was fantastic to see so many cadets coming together to develop their knowledge and interest in space science, technology, and exploration.

Throughout the courses, cadets completed a range of interactive activities linked to the RAFAC Space syllabus, covering subjects such as satellite technology, rocketry, space exploration, and the wider impact of space science on everyday life. Activities included practical rocket tasks, research projects, and teamwork exercises designed to build confidence, communication, and problem-solving skills alongside STEM knowledge.

We were also fortunate to have the support of two Gold Space qualified cadets assisting as instructors across the weekend, helping deliver activities and supporting younger cadets through the syllabus. It was great to see cadets not only progressing through the Space pathway, but also developing as leaders and instructors themselves.

A brilliant weekend of learning, teamwork, and STEM development — well done to everyone involved! 🌍🛰️🚀

Huge congratulations to three of our cadets, who yesterday took to the skies for their very first Air Experience Flight! ✈️

An unforgettable opportunity, giving cadets the chance to experience powered flying first-hand and see aviation from a whole new perspective. We hope this is the first of many exciting opportunities to come!

🚀 Another Day of Space Training!

Today, we welcomed 8 cadets from 2358, 149, 2391, and 1069 Squadrons for another engaging Space training day. It was particularly great to see some cadets returning after completing Blue Space on the recent combined course, continuing their progression through the syllabus by moving on to Bronze level training.

Cadets took part in a variety of activities designed to develop their knowledge and interest in space science and exploration. Throughout the day, they got hands-on with a rocket activity, explored the lifecycle of a star and the possibility of life beyond Earth through a research project, and completed a session focused on satellite technology and its role in the modern world.

It was fantastic to see cadets from multiple squadrons working together, sharing ideas, and getting fully involved in the activities. A great day of learning, teamwork, and STEM development - well done to all involved! 🌍🛰️🚀

🚀 Sector Combined Space Day – Blue & Bronze Courses!

Yesterday, our squadron hosted a combined Space course, delivering both Blue and Bronze Space courses to cadets from across all six squadrons in the sector. In total, 29 cadets took part, with 6 completing Blue Space and 23 working through the Bronze syllabus.

Throughout the day, cadets explored a range of topics linked to space exploration and its impact, building their knowledge of space science, technology, and how it applies both in orbit and here on Earth. The training brought together cadets from across the sector, creating a great opportunity to learn, collaborate, and share ideas.

A key highlight of the day was the practical rocket design activity. Cadets worked in teams to design and build their own rockets before putting them to the test in a launch competition. Rockets were judged on both distance travelled and time in the air, with some impressive results and plenty of competitive spirit on display.

The day provided a fantastic mix of STEM learning, teamwork, and hands-on application, and it was great to see cadets from across the sector fully engaged throughout. A big well done to all who took part!

On Sunday, cadets and staff from 149 (Poole) Squadron joined others from the East Dorset Sector to mark ATC Sunday, celebrating the 85th anniversary of the Air Training Corps (ATC).

The celebrations began with a parade through Ferndown, followed by a church service which included the renewal of the Cadet Promise.

The rain arrived just as we stepped off towards the church, but spirits remained high throughout, and the professionalism and resilience of the cadets shone through. After marching back, everyone was kindly hosted by the local Royal British Legion, where some well-earned snacks and good company rounded off the day.

A fantastic ATC Sunday spent celebrating our history, our values, and the strength of the cadet community across the East Dorset sector. Well done to all involved.

🚀 Bronze Space Course – Mission Accomplished!

Today, our squadron ran its first Bronze Space Course, with 12 cadets completing the second stage of the RAFAC Space syllabus. The day focused on space exploration and its scientific impact, covering topics including space technology on Earth, satellite systems, rocket history and propulsion, and human spaceflight.

Cadets took part in a range of interactive activities to support learning, including group research tasks and short presentations on assigned subjects. The day concluded with a Dragon’s Den-style challenge, where teams designed and pitched their own space missions to secure funding, showcasing creativity, teamwork, and confident communication.

A brilliant day of STEM learning and problem-solving — well done to all the cadets involved! 🛰️🌍
