Everyone should have a plan for unexpected events. What would you do in the event of a major power outage, significant flooding, or another serious emergency?

The Parish Council has now launched its Community Emergency Plan (CEP).

The Plan is intended to provide a considered and structured approach for the Parish Council and the Community on how together they can support local resilience before, during and after an emergency, while, if necessary, awaiting or supporting the Emergency Services and Dorset Council. The Plan seeks to use local knowledge, skills and resources where it is safe and appropriate.

Emergency WhatsApp Channel

To support the CEP, we have a WhatsApp Broadcast Channel. This channel will be used to share urgent updates as above plus important local information, including:

Road closures, Parish Council meetings and events,

Messages sent through the channel are broadcast only, meaning other members cannot see your details and cannot reply. The channel is managed by the Parish Clerk and two Councillors.

A message from our Chair

Dear Parishioners

✔️ “Thank You” to the Parishioners that attended our June Parish Council meeting. We welcome the questions and inputs into the topics being discussed.

✔️ David Harrop is co-opted as a Parish Councillor: We are very pleased to welcome David to the team. He is our new Chair of the Winfrith Playing Field Association and will be the Parish Council Representative on the WPFA.

✔️ Frequency of Parish Council meetings: There has been some debate recently as to whether the current frequency needs any change and possible “pros and cons.”

✔️ Currently: Every second Monday (generally) in the month (but no meeting in August) with an extra meeting in April. This is known as our Parish Annual Meeting. In future: Your Parish Councillors have agreed: “No change” to the current cycle, except for the month of April, when we will have one meeting; that being the Parish Annual Meeting and should there be the need for a formal Parish Council meeting that month to deal with any specific items, a short Parish Council meeting can be held that same evening. It is recognised that Parish Councillors may not be able to attend every Parish Council meeting.

✔️ Traffic: We welcome the feedback we receive from Parishioners, following the introduction of the 20 mph throughout the village. We are investigating the possibility of an electronic speed display board (SID).

✔️ Playground: Great news that the playground should be almost in place by the time you read this.

Thanks go to the team who took the old one out, in particular, John and Dave Clark who provided and manned the digger. It saved over ÂŁ3,000. It was pleasing that most of the old equipment found a new home.

The last grant has come through from NRS (Magnox) for the full amount we applied for which was ÂŁ8,000. This adds to money from the Lottery (ÂŁ20, 000), Talbot Trust (ÂŁ3,000), Dorset County (ÂŁ10,000), Norco ÂŁ2,500 and JF Cobb ÂŁ1,000.

Add this to all the money raised by the community and some very generous donations means we will have a great facility

Once everything is signed off the Playing Field Association will take over the management ensuring it is well maintained and safe so that it will last for many years ahead. Sincerest thanks to Brenda Mustoe for leading on this project; a truly magnificent result.

✔️ The Playing Field: Now that “Summer” is here, it is great to see The Winfrith Newburgh Cricket Club in action. (During the Winter months, the Wool & Winfrith Football Club frequently hold their training periods and matches.) Thanks go to Dave Evans for producing a very full and comprehensive report on the Pavilion. This is being closely studied. “Do we repair or replace the current structure?” Not an easy question to answer!! A special vote of thanks goes to Playing Field Association team member John Mustoe. He has stepped down from the Association. He has given truly great service to the Association over recent years. Thank you, John.

✔️ The next meeting is at 7pm Monday 14th July 2025 The Parishioners’ Open Forum is a good opportunity for Parishioners to put forward any questions and or comments on local matters.
