Congratulations to everyone who's opened their GCSE results today! However the numbers landed, they're a snapshot, not a sentence. A tech career doesn't run on a single exam day: some of the best engineers, developers and problem-solvers started with grades that didn't tell the full story, and found their way in through apprenticeships, bootcamps, self-taught projects, or just sheer curiosity and persistence.

What matters far more than today's results is the willingness to keep building, keep tinkering, and keep asking "how does this work?" If tech is where your curiosity lives, there's a route in for you, today's results are just one step on a much longer, more interesting path.

From a distress beacon to a robot on Mars, here's what could be in store for your kids:

Part 1: Code a wearable "Smart Beacon" on a micro:bit that detects a fall and sends a rescue signal, inspired by the real story of Liskeard explorer George Lower.

Part 2: Program a rover to navigate on its own, just like Perseverance and Curiosity on Mars!

No experience needed. All kit provided. And thanks to the Lyskerrys Fund, it's free for families in the Caradon district.

Available for ages 10 - 14. The workshop will be held at Liskeard Library on Wed 26 Aug from 9:30am to 4:30pm

Calling all budding future tech coders and innovators. We have recently added new 2026 Tech Jam events across !

These free, drop-in coding and electronics sessions are where young people don't just watch technology happen; they build it. From their first lines of code to hands-on circuit building with kit they might never get to touch at home or school, kids work side-by-side with real tech industry volunteers who once sat exactly where they're sitting now.

It's informal, it's hands-on, and for many young people it's the first moment tech stops being something you consume and becomes something you make, the exact kind of spark that turns a Saturday morning into the start of a career. No booking, no cost, just drop in with your curiosity.

This August, kids aged 10โ€“14 get to solve that problem themselves, then use the same skills to program a Mars rover.

Every year we run rover-building workshops, Mission to Mars experiences, Tech Explorers days, Tech Jam, and our tech networking events. We are putting young people and local businesses through hands-on tech experiences across Cornwall.

Behind every one of those is a venue that made it work: the room, the tables, the power sockets, the coffee that kept everyone going.

We're building a list of preferred venue suppliers across Cornwall, spaces we can turn to first when we're planning our next workshop, masterclass, or careers event.

If you run a venue that could host groups for hands-on, high-energy sessions (think: robots on tables, teams huddled over laptops, the odd bit of noise and mess that comes with real learning, or the sound of deep business discussions coupled with laughter), we'd love to hear from you.

Maybe they're the one debugging code until the rover finally moves. Maybe they're the one rallying the team when the build isn't working. Maybe they're the one asking, "what if we tried it this way?โ€ and it works

Long before the polished prototypes and finished products, every engineer had a first attempt that wobbled, stalled, or drove straight into a wall. That's not a setback, that's the process.

On Wednesday 29th July, your child can start theirs. Tech Explorers is a one-day physical computing programme for curious minds aged 10โ€“14, running at Camborne Community Centre. In the morning, they'll program a Mission to Mars rover using the BBC micro:bit and pick up the basics of Python. In the afternoon, they'll build their own rover (with some rather unusual wheels) and code it to drive using a Raspberry Pi Pico.

It won't be perfect first time round. That's exactly the point.

Tech Cornwall is delighted to announce it has received funding from the Lyskerrys Fund, delivered through the Cornwall Community Foundation, to deliver a focused tech startup support programme for the Liskeard community: two workshops and twelve mentorship sessions designed to help local microbusinesses, sole traders and early-stage founders scale their operations and/or start a new business using digital and tech methods.

The grant forms part of the first round of funding from the Lyskerrys Fund, which awarded a total of ยฃ25,580 across eight projects in the Liskeard area, supporting initiatives that help people build skills, strengthen communities and improve wellbeing.

Ever wondered if your child could be a future coder, engineer, or robotics whizz? This Saturday is the perfect chance to find out!

Cornwall Tech Jam is a hands-on, no-pressure space where young people can get stuck into coding, Raspberry Pi and Arduino projects, circuit building and more, with friendly volunteers from Cornwall's tech industry on hand to guide them.

It's a brilliant, low-key way for kids to get real, practical exposure to STEM and explore whether a career in tech could be for them. No experience needed, just curiosity! Parents are welcome to get stuck in too.

No booking required, just turn up any time between 10 and 2!
