Treforest Litter Pickers

Hello Treforest 👋

Treforest is not looking too bad this week, thank goodness 🚮

But one thing is really annoying when you're walking down the streets litter picking and that is overgrown pavements.

This is Laura Street today, would you believe?

We have reported it 3 times this summer to RCT and as Laura Street is in the Graig ward we have also contacted their councillor.

This pavement is completely unusable.

We as a community group want to start doing something about this.

If our pavements are unusable to pedestrians, wheelchair users and mobility scooters then there is a strong chance we are more likely to use our cars to get around. And Treforest definitely doesn't need more cars on the road!!!

Plus it looks terrible and gives off the feeling of neglect, and encourages flytipping and litter.

Any ideas what to do?

We've reported it, but could probably contact the landowner as well. We could start clearing it up ourselves but it's a huge job, and expensive tools are needed.

We have some absolutely amazing news to share with you 😁

We have been shortlisted for the Tidy Wales Awards 2026 in the Cleaner Communities category.

We are all absolutely over the moon 💚

This is for everyone who has supported us and helped make a difference in Treforest over the last 18 months that we have been doing this.

We started litter picking in March 2025 and we have had hundreds of volunteers from Treforest and further afield who have given up their time to help the community and do the right thing 🚮

Hello Treforest 👋

This morning we tidied our lovely town starting from Taff Vale Park, the kiddies park, down under the footbridge, around Lawn Terrace, along the river bank and into the conker field.

We finished faster than usual today and had a lovely cup of coffee and top notch biscuits afterwards 😎

There were about 15 of us and we want to say a big thank you to our newest recruits today, you were fantastic and a real help!

Also a massive thanks to Melissa and Kristina from the world famous Litter Pick Challenge who cleared rubbish from the river Taff. Legends 💚

Hello Treforest 👋

We treated ourselves to a mid-week bonus litter pick yesterday evening!

We wanted to tidy up the top lane above Llantwit Road as it has recently been cut back. We have been emailing South Wales Police about the overgrowth for 6 months, as they own the land above the lane, and we have finally started to see some action.

The lane was being used as a dumping ground for flytipping for years. Now it's tidy we hope it will discourage any further dumping.

Thanks as ever to our hardy volunteers! Not bad for an hour's work. 14 bags, a toaster, front suspension off a car and snazzy bar stool!

Don't forget we are meeting on Sunday down at Lewiston Park 10am.
