Treforest Litter Pickers We are a friendly group who get together every month to litter pick around Treforest.

Our aim is simple - a cleaner, greener and safer Treforest that everyone can enjoy! Come and help us on our next pick, all equipment is provided, just turn up!

Your Weekly Update is back 😁

Don't worry Treforest we are back on the streets after our mini break!

✅ Yesterday, I was down below the Broadway checking the lanes and parks and they are not too bad. However, behind the takeaways could do with a tidy up again. Also somebody has dismantled a Dyson in Lewiston Park, by our favourite hotspot, the bench. All tidy now though.

✅ Today I went up Stow Hill to have a look at the football pitch bags and they were empty and the area was looking great in the sunshine. Result!

✅ If you need a new handbag there's one been dumped on Laura Street. Get there quick before it goes!

We are so excited to be collaborating with Treforest Litter Pickers this Sunday. We will be meeting at Meadow Street Community Garden and getting in the river Taff at 1000 until 1200.

We will be removing waste and litter from the river, but also pulling up Himalyan balsam from the banks. By removing polluting rubbish and invasive plants we can have healthier rivers. If you wish to join in and help clean up our river then we would be thrilled to see you.

We will be providing waders (let us know your shoe size and we can ensure that we have enough ready), safety equipment, expert supervision and plenty of enthusiasm.

Hello Treforest 👏

Don't forget this coming Sunday we are meeting at Meadow Street Community Garden as part of their Wellbeing Day event.

We will be doing our regular pick in the back lanes and hedges etc. but we will also be teaming up with Jack from Groundwork Wales and getting in the river Taff to give it a proper clean up!

Waders available for the adventurous!

If you want to help in the water then send us a PM with your shoe size and Groundwork will provide you the waders!

It's going to be a lot of fun 😊

♻️ This is not our usual type of message.♻️

🚮 This is a plea to anyone in Treforest who is moving out, clearing out a rental property or to anyone who is thinking of dumping your rubbish in the lane or on the pavement by your house.

🚮 Do the right thing

🚮 Be responsible for your rubbish.

🚮 Dispose of it properly

This year the community has worked harder than ever to Keep Treforest Tidy and in the last week our residents are starting to see the rubbish being cleared out of properties and some of this is ending up in our public places. Blocking pavements and lanes.

This is a kick in the teeth to all the volunteers who give up their spare time to help the community.

This is totally unacceptable behaviour and we are not going to take it anymore!



🚮 If you're reading this and have dumped rubbish or are thinking of dumping rubbish then it's bang out of order. The community is asking you to be the better person and do the right thing for Treforest.

And finally, a message to the residents who do care, and we know there are loads of you because we meet you every single day we are out litter picking, photograph what you see and report it. Please. I know it's a pain in the backside but it helps, it really does.

Report it to:

- The letting agent

- USW

- Steve Powderhill

- Tell us and we will help

We CAN do better Treforest. Together we can challenge this behaviour and stamp it out.

Hello Treforest 👋

The moment you have all been waiting for 😉

Your favourite Weekly update:

✅ We've done the back lanes below the Broadway, around Nile Street, Alexandra Street etc. and found that the overgrown empty bit between 33 and 34 Broadway has been cut back. Not sure who did it. Possibly RCT. Anyway, it's full of rubbish and we're thinking of giving it a good clean up before the vegetation grows back. Let us know if you have any info on this piece of land, and if you want to help out the community and tidy it up, get in touch!

✅ Also, for our next monthly litter pick on the 31st of May at Meadow Street Community Garden we are going to collaborate with Groundwork Wales on their healthy rivers campaign. We will be getting down on the banks of the Taff and clearing up any rubbish we see. We know there is still debris from Storm Dennis 2020 to clear up.

This is going to be extremely important work and we are happy to have the chance to help out with this project. Come along and give us a hand 🚮

✅ Thanks for all your support, don't forget to keep the pavement in front of your house clean and tidy, and help your neighbour if they can't do it themselves 💚

Hello Treforest!

✅ This week we got together and did a bonus litter pick up the hill behind the Uni. An elderly gentleman from our community contacted us and asked for help. On his daily walk up the Heol y Cawl road he saw lots of rubbish in the hedgerows. This is all we needed to know and the A-Team turned up and cleaned up!

✅ Another busy week for us after the big pick last weekend.

✅ Our volunteers have been hitting the streets and keeping it tidy.

🚮 USW have also been out litter picking in Treforest this week and they collected 17 bags of rubbish on Thursday from around the Brook Street/ Queen Street areas. It's fantastic to see the university doing some work in the local community.

🚮 Don't forget if you want to help out but can't make it to our events then just do the pavement outside your front door. Honestly, this would be the most helpful thing anyone can do. If we all did that we wouldn't need to do our litter picks at all!

Hello Treforest 👋

✅ A bunch of superstars turned up this morning and collected almost 40 bags of rubbish from down by Taff Meadow.

✅ We cleared the river bank and the woods in front of Lawn Terrace, as well as the streets nearby.

✅ We finished off with tea and biscuits and a sit in the sunshine.
