Shane, attends Gelli life for living with his mother Sarah Jane, he is a younger group member, he has settled in well to group life, made amazing friends his age, he can be relied on to help out volunteering where needed. He’s very much a part of the Gelli life for living family 💙

My name is Shane. I'm a young carer and full time student. I started attending gelli life for living with my mother who has attended for 2 years. After seeing all the good work they do I decided to volunteer and help out at events wherever my college schedule allows

I started attending Gelli Life for Living 2 years ago. Being disabled and being a full time carer for a disabled child had left me isolated for many years. But with the group I no longer feel isolated. The leader Susan is always there when needed. During a time of severe illness when I was unable to leave the house and couldn't attend Susan still ensured I did not feel alone and would always call for a chat without that I would have been completely isolated from the world.

Since attending I have made loads of friends including my closest friends who are now like family. I have attended carers breaks which I would not have had access too which provided much needed respite and some crazy but fun activities that helps build confidence and teamwork within the group.

Sarah works hard behind the scenes promoting gelli life for living, Sarah also works endlessly finding and filling in grants, which she has successfully secured. We are extremely great-full for everything she does for us she’s a valid member of the team ❤️

My name is Vicky, and i have been attending Gelli Life 4 Living for 2 years.

Whilst I was pregnant with my son 17 years ago, I found out I had Pompe disease, a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy.
As life went on, I became isolated, lacking confidence and self-worth. I was left feeling a burden to others
Whilst arranging a day trip out, Sue asked me why I wasn’t taking any part in the day trips.
I felt it wasn’t fair on others to be pushing my wheelchair all day.
Several weeks later, Sue said, “I have solved your situation.” Sue had found and applied for a grant to purchase an electric, folding, lightweight wheelchair, giving me the independence and safety to attend days out.

I’m so very grateful to the Barchester's Charitable Foundation for the grant that has enabled me to continue living my life independently, and to Sue for taking the time and caring about my needs and welfare.
