We are passionate about the development of our dedicated staff and Shared Lives carers, and, through careful recruitment and training, we ensure that our values and approach is embedded in all the support we provide.

🌱 Good things grow when we work together!

Our colleagues recently swapped their usual working day for a day of getting stuck in at Bloomin Well CIC, a wonderful therapeutic garden in Clophill, Bedfordshire.

Aisha, Rupesh, Nikki and Michelle rolled up their sleeves to help prepare the garden for its Open Day — laying a new pathway, weeding, pruning, deadheading and even tackling the compost heaps! 💪🌻

But it wasn't just about getting our hands dirty. It was about giving something back to the local community and supporting the fantastic work Bloomin Well does to help people experience the therapeutic benefits of gardening and nature.

At Ategi, we believe our colleagues should have opportunities to make a difference beyond their day-to-day roles. That's why we provide volunteering hours, giving our people the chance to share their time, skills and energy with causes and communities that matter to them. 💚

A huge thank you to Bloomin Well for welcoming us — and to our brilliant volunteers for making such a positive contribution!

She has a caring nature and loves looking out for the people around her. Over time, Gaynor has built strong relationships with her support team and developed a real sense of trust and confidence in the people who support her.

From enjoying daily activities together to simply sharing time and conversation, Gaynor makes the most of the support around her and the connections she has made. ❤️

From Shared Lives to university. 🎓

What can the right support help someone achieve?

For JJ, it has helped him take an exciting step towards the future he wants.

After completing his college course, JJ received offers from three universities. He chose the University of Bristol, where he will study for a degree in IT.

His journey towards independence has been supported by a strong and lasting relationship with his Shared Lives carer—giving him the encouragement and confidence to pursue his ambitions and make his own choices.

University isn't just JJ's next destination.

It's another step towards independence, new opportunities and shaping his own future.

For Reetesh, becoming a Shared Lives carer was a way to bring together his professional experience in mental health with something he and his wife wanted to do for their community.

With a spare room and a desire to make a difference, they opened their home to someone who needed stability, encouragement and a place to belong.

Today, the people they support are part of everyday family life—from cooking together and sharing routines to volunteering and building friendships in the community.

As Reetesh puts it, Shared Lives isn't just about giving support. It brings laughter, connection and purpose too.

What does ‘person-centred’ really mean?

It’s a phrase we hear a lot in social care. But what does it actually look like in practice?

For Abi, a student social worker completing her first placement with Ategi, it meant seeing what happens when support is built around a person rather than expecting the person to fit around a service.

She saw people developing confidence, learning new skills, trying new things and making choices about their own lives.

And one moment stayed with her: seeing someone who had once been too nervous to sing in front of others find the confidence to sing while playing guitar.

Because independence isn't always about doing everything alone.

Sometimes, it’s about having the right support, encouragement and opportunities to discover what you can achieve.

Could you help people live more independently, build meaningful relationships and enjoy life in their local community?

We’re looking for a Shared Lives Co-ordinator to join our team in Amersham, Buckinghamshire on a 7-month fixed-term contract.

This is a varied and rewarding role supporting our Shared Lives service. You’ll help recruit, assess, support and supervise Shared Lives Carers, while making sure the people we support receive safe, high-quality and person-centred support.

You’ll also help to create successful Shared Lives arrangements by:

✨ Matching people with the right Shared Lives Carers
✨ Supporting carers and monitoring arrangements
✨ Promoting independence, wellbeing and meaningful lives
✨ Working with families, commissioners and other professionals
✨ Supporting safeguarding, quality and regulatory requirements
📍 Based: Amersham, Buckinghamshire
💷 Salary: circa £28,565 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications
⏰ Hours: 36.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
📅 Contract: 7-month fixed-term temporary position
🏡 Working: Flexible and hybrid working available

🌟 Holiday adventures, new experiences and friendships! 🌟

What happens when Shared Lives carer Sheila takes two brothers on a break to Butlin’s? Plenty of fun, laughter and memories! 🎢☀️

From bumper cars 🚗 and golf ⛳ to bowling 🎳 and evening entertainment, JS and DS packed their break with adventures – and it was fantastic to see just how much their confidence has grown.

Their short breaks with Sheila give them the chance to enjoy new experiences, spend time together and build their independence, while their parents get the opportunity to enjoy some precious time together too. ❤️

And Sheila didn’t stop there!

The following week, she headed back to Butlin’s with three more people she supports – two who enjoy short breaks with her and another who lives with her as part of a longer-term Shared Lives arrangement.

More adventures. More laughter. And more friendships made along the way. 💛

It’s a wonderful example of what Shared Lives can be: people coming together, sharing experiences and creating connections that can last long after the holiday ends.

A huge thank you to Sheila for opening her home, sharing her time and helping the people she supports make memories, try new things and live life their way. 🙌
