The Aloud Charity Founded by Tim Rhys-Evans MBE in 2012, The Aloud Charity currently delivers activity through two main strands: Only Boys Aloud and Aloud Voices.

The Aloud Charity changes the lives of young people across South Wales through the power of group singing — via Only Boys Aloud, Only Voices Aloud and a series of other training and community projects 🎶✨ Only Boys Aloud was born from a desire to encourage young Welsh men to be ambitious for their future and equipped with the life skills to fulfil their potential. Open to any boy between the ages o

f 11-19, there is no audition and no fee. The only project of its kind in Wales, open access is a key part of the OBA ethos and the choirs operate in some of the most deprived areas of the country. Aloud Voices is a mixed choir group for girls and boys aged 9 – 25 in South Wales — designed to inspire and develop vocal talent in a fun, supportive environment. There are three choirs within Aloud Voices:

- Aloud Junior Voices (our youngest group for children in school years 5 and 6)

- Aloud Intermediate Voices (ideal for singers with some experience, aimed at young people in school years 7 to 9)

- Aloud Voices (for more experienced singers, from school year 10 to age 25).

“I was the quiet boy in the corner.”

When Iestyn first joined Only Boys Aloud, he didn’t have the confidence to sing a solo.
Today, he sings, performs, does drag and, most importantly, has the confidence to be himself.
For Iestyn, Aloud became much more than a choir. It became a community, a home from home and a place where he could truly belong.

“Only Boys Aloud gave me the confidence to be who I want to be and do what I want to do.”
As part of our ‘Aloud to Be Yourself’ campaign, we’ll be sharing stories from our members and celebrating the difference that feeling accepted, supported and free to be yourself can make.
