The Aloud Charity

Founded by Tim Rhys-Evans MBE in 2012, The Aloud Charity currently delivers activity through two main strands: Only Boys Aloud and Aloud Voices.

The Aloud Charity changes the lives of young people across South Wales through the power of group singing — via Only Boys Aloud, Only Voices Aloud and a series of other training and community projects 🎶✨ Only Boys Aloud was born from a desire to encourage young Welsh men to be ambitious for their future and equipped with the life skills to fulfil their potential. Open to any boy between the ages o

f 11-19, there is no audition and no fee. The only project of its kind in Wales, open access is a key part of the OBA ethos and the choirs operate in some of the most deprived areas of the country. Aloud Voices is a mixed choir group for girls and boys aged 9 – 25 in South Wales — designed to inspire and develop vocal talent in a fun, supportive environment. There are three choirs within Aloud Voices:

- Aloud Junior Voices (our youngest group for children in school years 5 and 6)

- Aloud Intermediate Voices (ideal for singers with some experience, aimed at young people in school years 7 to 9)

- Aloud Voices (for more experienced singers, from school year 10 to age 25).

Can you love football and sing in a choir?

Can you play rugby on Saturday, sing on Sunday, and enjoy both equally?

Absolutely.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Only Boys Aloud is that you have to be a certain type of person to join.

You don't.

Our members are footballers, rugby players, gamers, skateboarders, guitarists, chess players, dancers, actors, artists and musicians.

Many are several of those things.

Some are none of them.

That's the point.

Whether you're sports-mad, creative, competitive, musical — or if you simply love singing — there's a place for you here.

And remember, being in a choir doesn't just mean singing classical music. At OBA, we cover everything from Coldplay to Gregorian Chant.

We celebrate individuality, encourage ambition, and create a space where young people can be themselves.

We can't believe that this time last year our senior Only Boys Aloud members had the honour of performing at the Japanese Embassy in London

The performance marked the midway point of the Year of Wales and Japan, celebrating the cultural, creative, business and sporting ties between our two nations.

Here, the boys performed Hiraeth Furusato, a special commission for Aloud that beautifully weaves together a Welsh and a Japanese folk song. Both songs share a common theme: a deep sense of pride in, and longing for, home.

A memorable day, an incredible opportunity, and a performance we're still proud of one year on. 💙

🎵 We're inviting Year 6 boys to have a taster of our OBA rehearsals this month. A fun and free opportunity to make new friends, build confidence, and discover the joy of singing together! If they enjoy it, they'll be able to continue with our free weekly rehearsals when they start Year 7 in September.
