Happy Bank Holiday Monday our amazing supporters 🙏

Sunday was a very special day at
Guardians For Heroes, as we were officially
handed a cheque of £6,781.00 by the amazing Deputy Lord Lieutenant Sharon Dixon and Michael Spear. This huge amount has secured GFH, future for the next six months.

The incredible amount was raised by Cardiff City supporters, fun bus raffles.
Thanks to Michael Jeffrey for nominating GFH, Michael Spear and Alun Phelps for arranging the prizes.

A huge thank you to all, who gave up their time to support us.

My beautiful daughter Danielle, Deputy Lord Lieutenant Sharon Dixon, the Fun Bus crew, Cardiff City Football Club veterans hub, Volunteers of GFH, Gillian, Roland, Oscar, Kym, Sue, Sharon and Ray, Nigel our web designer, Felicity Brett our incredible cake maker, also our hidden chef Roland, and Jeremy from the Marauders Men’s Health group.

Happy Saturday our amazing supporters 🙏

Today, Guardians For Heroes and Cardiff City Football Club Veterans Hub, in collaboration, went on a wonderful walk, our first of many 👏 great to see two veteran hubs, have such a fantastic bond, we are pretty special.

Tomorrow, Guardians For Heroes are holding a special event at our hub. Thanks to Cardiff City supporters, who travel to away games, in the Fun Bus, run by the amazing Michael Spear and Alun Phelps, and supported by Michael Jeffrey, will be officially handing over a cheque of £6,781
outstanding amount.

🇬🇧 HWB FOR HEROES – VETERANS WELLBEING DAY 🇬🇧

Our monthly Veterans Wellbeing Day is back at the Health Hwb:

Tuesday 26th May from 2pm–9pm.

A safe, relaxed and welcoming space for veterans to switch off, recharge and connect with others who understand. Whether you want to talk, relax, meet other veterans or simply take some time for yourself… this space is yours.

What’s included:

🔸 Free access to our saunas & ice plunges
🔸 Option to use our Pressotherapy recovery system
🔸 Armed Forces Liaison Officer on site
🔸 Support from About Turn Wales
🔸 Free brew & chat in our community room

No pressure.
No judgement.

Happy Thursday our amazing supporters 🙏

Guardians For Heroes, have been busy running courses in collaboration with Coleg y Cymoedd.

24 students for the woodwork taster session, where mini propagators were made, 20 students took part in Pyrography, where they discovered new talents, and finally a two day taster session in sewing, last session Friday. 20 students learnt new skills in, hand and machine sewing.

Thank you to Tier and Oscar for your patience, and skills.

A huge thank you to Michael Spear, Alun Phelps and Michael Jeffries, along with all the Cardiff City fun bus supporters, who raised a gigantic amount of money, from raffles, that they run at every away game.

Today, we welcomed DWP, volunteers into our hub. Many laughs and good fun, had by all, but not much work, to speak of 😂

Tomorrow, from 1pm GFH, will be supporting the Marauders Men’s Health Group, at their open day. Please join us, to meet this incredible, men’s health group.

*Meet the Marauders Open Day*

Tomorrow is the big day guys where, from 9am, we'll be holding our Open Day and showcasing our charity alongside some of our partner organisations. We'd love to see you all there - and bring your friends, family, neighbours and anyone else that you know that may want to find out more about us.

*When* - We'll be there all day between 9am-3pm (you can just call in for some or all of it)

*Where* - Ty Illtyd Community Centre, Church Village CF38 1DB (next to the car park directly opposite bakery & post office)

*Who'll be There* - Cristie (our new CEO), our trustees and staff as well as partner representatives from Llantrisant Guildhall, Interlink RCT, Tempo Time Credits, Sport in Mind & NERS/RCT Leisure Services

*What's On* - Free food and refreshments, Take a walk with our 'Brew with a View' gang, Join a Litter Pick with your fellow Marauders, Take our Pickleball Challenge, Hand out some flyers to the passing public

Today, I’m giving my time, to two very special Chelsea Pensioners, Ahmed and Barrie. When Ahmed said he felt down, I instantly booked a coach, to visit, The Royal Hospital Chelsea.

When Guardians For Heroes, welcome new visitors to our hub, I watch to see the reaction on their faces, as you would never think, in the middle of an industrial estate, would be such a calming space.

Today, we welcomed Steven, who is a SAFE Project Officer, for MALE DOMESTIC ABUSE. I found my double in Steven, his empathy and values towards the people who reach out for help, align with my own.

Each month, 30-40 people, including veterans, community members and pensioners, are speaking out.

This is a subject very close to my heart, as I’ve seen it happen to a friend, also having conversations with veterans, who reached out for help, as they were in a coercive relationship, reporting the abuse to the police, leading to a criminal record, as they were not believed.

I personally tried to get help last year, for a veteran. I tried so many different veteran help groups, but got past on from pillar to post, and that’s without me being the one that needed help. I gave up, in the end when the answer phone said “We close at 5pm” what use is that?

At GFH, we are open 6 days (some times 7) as my own mental health, is 24/7 and not between set times on set days, we are open when we are needed, by a simple phone call.

I was asked today, are we open in the evening, as those looking for help are in work, or in a relationship they can’t get away during the day.

Simple answer is, yes we are!!

Over the next few months, I will be spending time with Steven, to see how we can help, and make our hub a safe space for Male Domestic Abuse.

So totally me, all of how my feelings are!! I’m always educating myself, to help me to understand my mental health, to help others.

We are back, and fighting after a month of mental health issues, sadly.

Today, Guardians For Heroes, supported
Cardiff City FC Veterans Hub, with a volunteer day, at their incredible memorial garden.
Collaboration is key, to supporting more veterans. Stronger together 🙏

It was great to spend time, with the veterans off our joint accredited course, we cant wait to have them return 👏

It was week 2 of welcoming DWP to our hub, for their volunteer day, so they joined sixty other volunteers, at the memorial garden, followed by the afternoon making bird boxes.
