We’re currently exploring the idea of transitioning the NHW Watch into a Community Interest Company (CIC), and we’d really value your thoughts.
NHW was originally set up with the aim of helping make our town safer, and we feel we’ve made strong progress towards that. Through initiatives like grab bags, hi-vis vests, and contributing funds towards bus station cameras and defibrillator cabinets, we’ve supported safety in practical ways.
However, we feel the group may now be reaching a natural point of change. Moving to a CIC would allow us to broaden our impact — not just focusing on safety, but supporting the town more widely. It would open up new opportunities for fundraising and enable us to support a variety of local projects and events, including those run by individual businesses.
One idea we’re considering is introducing a tote-style fundraiser, where proceeds are split 50/50 between a community fund (“town pot”) and a prize pot. This could provide a sustainable way to generate funding for ongoing improvements and activities.
We’ve been inspired by other community groups on social media, such as “I ❤️ Ton” and “Make Mount Great,” who are doing fantastic work bringing people together and supporting their local areas.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on this idea and whether you feel this is a positive direction for the group.
Thanks very much,
Becky
