Taff-Ely Foodbank How a foodbank works
All food given out by foodbanks comes from donations. Supermarket collections help foodbanks engage the public.

https://linktr.ee/taffelyfoodbank Schools, churches, businesses, various community groups individuals and supermarket collections all give generously to our project especially at certain times of the year e.g.Christmas and Harvestime. Foodbank volunteers offer shoppers a ‘foodbank shopping list’ and ask them to buy an extra item with their shop. This food is then handed to volunteers waiting beyond the checkout who pack it before it is taken to the foodbank warehouse for further sorting and storage. Food is sorted and stored
At the warehouse, volunteers weigh and sort the donated food according to type and 'best before date'. They also check it is undamaged and suitable for use before packing it into boxes for storage. Frontline professionals identify people in need
Professionals from statutory and voluntary organisations such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, Citizens Advice Bureau staff, welfare officers, the police and probation officers, identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. Clients receive emergency food
Clients bring their voucher to a foodbank centre where it can be exchanged for three days supply of emergency food. The list of foods in each parcel have been designed by dieticians to provide recipients with nutritionally balanced food. Some foodbanks run a delivery service, to get emergency food to clients living in rural areas and those who are unable to get to a foodbank. Clients are signposted to further support
Whilst their food is being packed, Foodbank volunteers will sit and chat with clients over a cup of tea or hot meal. This enables them to hear their stories and signpost them to agencies who can offer additional help and begin to resolve any underlying problems.

🌾🍂 Harvest Thanksgiving – 176kg of Kindness! 🍂🌾

What a wonderful Harvest celebration at St David's Church, Tonyrefail! ❤️

We are delighted to share that our Harvest collection raised an incredible 176kg of food for Taff-Ely Foodbank! 🥫🙌

That's 176kg of generosity, kindness and community spirit, all helping to support local individuals and families facing difficult times.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated, helped organise, carried bags, sorted donations or contributed in any way. Every single tin, packet and bag makes a difference. 💚

We would also like to say a special thank you to Taff-Ely Foodbank for joining us and delivering their talks during our Harvest celebrations. It was lovely to hear more about the important work they do in our local communities and the difference that everyone's generosity makes.

🎨🌻 Harvest Competition

A massive thank you to YGG Tonyrefail and Tref-y-Rhyg for their wonderful entries into our Harvest competition! We really appreciate the time, creativity and effort that went into taking part.

An extra special thank you to YGG Tonyrefail for joining us and singing so beautifully during our Harvest celebrations. It was a lovely addition to the occasion, and we really appreciated you sharing your talents with us! 🎶❤️

A special thank you also goes to our judges for giving their time to help judge the entries.

We are so grateful to be part of such a caring and generous community. Your kindness and support really do make a difference!

Together, we're making a difference, one donation at a time. 💚

🧡 WORLD FOOD DAY WITH BLISTER SISTERS 🧡

Tonight, we ran for a cause a little bigger than ourselves! 🏃‍♀️

To celebrate World Food Day this week, our ladies brought along food donations to support local families in need. Everything collected will be donated to the food bank to help those who need it most.

Together, we collected over 30 items of food to help support families in our community. 🧡

So proud of our Blister Sisters for showing that we’re about more than just running. We’re a community that looks after one another, both on and off the running track.

Every little bit makes a difference. Thank you to everyone who donated! 🧡
