Whitley Bay Round Table Santa Sleigh Run w/c 9th Dec

I had the opportunity to meet with a team of Round Tablers in Whitley Bay recently as they planned their primary winter activity of the Santa Sleigh Run around the coast. Tablers meet regularly to plan the operation, seek sponsorship prepare budgets & equipment. This annual event brings the genial red suited, white bearded fellow himself around the residential areas of our coastal towns in a decorated Sleigh, pulled, not by Reindeer but by a growling 4WD beast. Animated children in pyjamas and slippers wait expectantly on street corners of the pre planned route with Mum and Dad to listen for the Christmas music and to catch a glimpse of the generous chap distributing sweets and gifts & posing for photos with the lucky boys and girls. The contingent door-to-door charity collection by Santa’s Elves brings in thousands in valuable funds for charitable distribution throughout the area.

Gosforth Fireworks Display
On Saturday evening 2nd November a group of members and friends donned their familiar hi-vis vests and, equipped with head torches, set off to direct traffic and assist families as they arrived to enjoy the spectacle. In advance of the display itself, children were treated to a ‘fire-eating and juggling show and enjoyed rides on the many amusements available.
This event was mounted by a group of 6 dedicated Newcastle Round Tablers as it has been for years. With the support of other community groups which they have recruited, scouts, cadets etc. they entertained over 5,000 local children and families and raised over £13,000 for local charities. Newcastle Round Table Vice Chairman and lead coordinator, Scott Lloyd, presented Ponteland 41 Club with a generous. Well done to you all!
