One thing we’ve come to appreciate over the last few years is just how rare meaningful astronaut events in the UK are becoming.
Not large commercial theatre appearances, but genuine community events where people can actually spend meaningful time hearing directly from someone who has lived and worked in space.
That’s what our Space Social events are about.
A chance to step away from screens and documentaries for a day and experience these stories in person alongside fellow space enthusiasts, families, students and curious minds.
NASA astronaut Daniel Tani will be joining us live to share his experiences from the Space Shuttle and International Space Station, including over 131 days spent living and working in orbit.

We love this picture of Astronaut Daniel Tani, photographed in December 2001 on Space Shuttle mission STS-108. During a 4 hour EVA, Dan installed thermal blankets on mechanisms that rotate the International Space Station's (ISS) main solar arrays.

Remembering Edgar Mitchell - sixth man to walk on the Moon.

“Edgar Mitchell finally made it to Pontefract in July 2010… three months late. His flight had been forced back to the US in mid Atlantic 3 months previous following a volcanic eruption in Iceland. But when he made it, despite the stifling temperatures he pressed the flesh, chatted and signed autographs with the energy of a man half his 80 years.” - Rick Mulheirn

Seen here at the Space Lectures dinner, after becoming the custodian of a genuine ‘bobby helmet,’ a traditional, dome-shaped helmet worn primarily by male police constables and sergeants on foot patrol in England and Wales.
